I have been going to the same hair salon for about 20 years. This past summer I was burned. When I confronted the then owner, she didn't compensate me in any way. I decided to put it on social media. Recently I had another incident with one of their more recent employees who burned my face with the blow dryer and evidently burned my scalp. As a result,I had a few scabs on my scalp and my hair is damaged. The then owner who recently sold the shop to her nephew told me to come back in one week for a special hair repair treatment. I usually go there every two week. This cost me an additional 50.00. As a result, I called her nephew who is the new owner.The first thing he mentioned was that he would rather I talk to him before putting something on social media. I neglected to tell him that this was put on social media before he took over the business. I also told him that this is a new incident. He offered me a 50.00 gift certificate and free hair repair treatment. Do you think that I have handled this matter in a suitable way? I felt bad when he made mention of the social media. However, I was angry that nothing was done to compensate me at the time. I spend a great deal of money at this shop.

Do you want to go back there? I can't imagine why you would. If not, I'd tell him that he should give you $50 in cash. You shouldn't have had to pay for a treatment they suggested after BURNING YOU. Why did you pay? Did you just want to avoid a scene and bad feelings, given that you'd been going there for 20 years.

At this point, it might be best to just cut your losses and go elsewhere. I'm not sure getting the $50 back is worth the aggravation. Are there any hair products they sell that you really want? You could use the $50 to get them and then put these people in the rear-view mirror. I've never been burned at a salon, although I have had a few really horrible haircuts.

Thank you for responding. My husband made the same suggestion. Perhaps it's time to move on. I guess I have just been going back because I have done so for twenty years. The quality is not what it used to be.

@ThriveGenerally speaking, I don't believe social media should ever be the first stop in solving a problem, but you say you confronted the old owner and got no results.

I'm not sure what that word "confronted" means you said or did and we don't know what she said. What accusations were made? What offers were suggested?

I do wonder why you returned to that shop once you were angry enough to go the social media path.

I confronted the then owner by telling her that I had been burned. She did not offer any compensation. I went back again to have the same operator that I had for twenty years do my hair. I had never had any issues with her. This most recent incident happened when the lady who has done my hair for twenty years had the younger girl blow dry my hair while she was working on another client

Did you seek medical treatment from the 1st and/or 2nd injury? Not sure what you wanted to be "compensated" for if not?

Personally, I would have gone to an attorney after seeking medical treatment.

Does not matter if I was a 20yr or 1 month old customer. My patronize would have ended right after the 1st injury.

I know what you mean. My hairdresser was getting to be a bit of a problem a couple of years ago when she had her second child. She'd stick me under the dryer while she cleaned up her station when I was her last client instead of styling my hair. I'd get calls to come in earlier. I like her, though, and she's less stressed out now. I can see why you wouldn't refuse to pay, given that you'd gone there for 20 years. I can be quite horrible when I get really annoyed, but sometimes I'll try to be nice in a situation like that. It's not like you don't have a history with them.

Ask around and see whether you can find another salon where you'd be happier. If you see someone whose haircut you like, ask them where they go.

Furry, I think you should go on your local Yelp and research a new hair dresser.

Do a Search for "hair salons" and carefully go over the top rated salons on the list.

I wouldn't expect a salon to give you $50 in cash. Unless it's to refund your money. Most salons will offer a service to fix the problem.

But like others have said, find a different salon.

If I understand it correctly, the owner offered her a corrective treatment but then sold the business and the new owner charged her $50 for it. He should have refunded that without even having to be asked. It might not be worth the aggravation at this point, though.

Both the old owner and her nephew who is the new owner offered the corrective treatment. However, the nephew offered 50.00 off too. The old owner works there as a stylist now rather than both owner and stylist.

I have never and would never air my grievances against someone on FB or any other form of social media. Tell the owner you are taking your business elsewhere as a result of the incidents you have described. Ask your friends and family members who their stylist is and if they are satisfied.

I've never been tempted to use Social Media for any reason, and most certainly not to criticize someone unless there had been many conversations and many issues. To me, it seems you made a serious and intentionally unkind effort to damage their reputation when there was really not enough there to merit the criticism. If you aren't happy there, move on. It's not the end of the world.

I have a permanent burn on my face and the owner said much of nothing. I don't see this as insignificant. She could at least have not charged me the full price.
