OK, so I've been complaining that my typing skills are less than great and spellcheck is not really helping my posts.

We took our 4 pr. of glassses, sun glasses, too (only 3 months old) to the store where we purchased them and they were made correctly according to the doc or rather the technician's precriptions.

So, IMHO the techs are not properly trained to do the "is number one better than number two, better here or better there" assessment and the recommended prescriptions. DH and I both have had difficulty reading with our graduated bifocals...distance vision not too bad.

The ophthalmologist is spending less less than 5 minutes examining eyes and the techs in the office are doing every else...checking pressure, etc. Our insurance was charged almost $400 for each of us for those 5 minutes w/ the doc.

We're thinking what do we do next about approaching the opthamologist.

Anys thoughts, recommendations or similar experiences?

First, are you sure the doctor you are seeing is an opthomologist and not an optometrist? The clinic where I've gone for years has a few opthomologists on staff but they treat diseases of the eye, one does cataract surgeries, they don't do routine eye exams. Get a copy of your prescription and have it checked by a third party to see if it matches your glasses or have the doctor do it if you trust him.

I had always gone to see an ophthalmologist for yearly exams and prescription updates. My doctor is no longer doing routine exams so I recently went to an optometrist they recommended(doctor of optometry). I had the most thorough exam ever, my new prescription is so much better, I can’t believe it. The optometry office had technology I had ever seen before and the optometrist spent a lot of time with me.

After my last prescription update from the ophthalmology office, my vision was not really improved and I had reached the point where I was having to take my glasses off and put smaller print up to my face. I am now reading small print without difficulty and in fact just purchased a second pair because if something happens to these, I would never want to go back to my previous glasses, even short term.

Sorry to be long-winded but I’m so happy with my new glasses 😎. I will not be going back to an ophthalmologist unless there’s a medical issue, and I already have a retina specialist. So you might want to ask around about a good optometrist. I would still call your ophthalmologist first and let them know that your new prescription is not helping as it should be.

My eye "doctor" doesn't do exams for glasses. Optometrist does that.

Once, when I went to pick up my glassess - left lens was really wrong. Optometrist looked - and he had inadvertently wrote + for both lenses when one should have been plus and the other minus.

Just ask for Office Manager, explain problem and have the doctor personally check your eyes and replace glasses for free. I've had issues twice with glasses over the years. One time it was a miss transcribed prescription and once it was the facility that made the glasses ( these were through the doctor's office, never had a problem with Zenni).

@Shanus - are your new glasses similar in size and shape to your previous ones? My most recent new pair of progressives I went back to plastic frames and a more modern look and the frames are larger than my previous 3 or 4 pairs of glasses. I know the prescription is ok but the way I am seeing out of them is not. They remade the lenses and moved them up a little but it did not really help the up close stuff. They also said I could get them cut down for smaller frames. But I was worried I would still not be able to see up close and be out the cost of new frames. The distance part is fine but for the way I sit and use them and hold my head (for either reading or using the computer) the middle and close parts are not. I did not take that into consideration when I was choosing (plus it was almost impossible to choose a frame while wearing a mask!). So, I surrendered, went back to my previous pair (which I could see fine out of I was just tired of them after 3+ years) and put my $650 mistake in a drawer. I figure they are just one more weird thing that happened in 2020. I am lucky that I wear my (gas permeable) contact lenses most of the time so only use the glasses in the evenings and mornings before I shower. Good luck - glasses are not inexpensive!!

My son is an optician who works at LensCrafters. He is not a doctor, he just works in the lab and grinds the lenses to the specifications of the optometrist or opthalmologist. I used to go to an opthalmologist who was the head of the Medical staff of a hospital, However, the last 2 times he prescribed my glasses, the prescriptions were written incorrectly, so I have switched doctors. My son went to make the lenses and he said the way it was written couldn't be right. Something about my astigmatism. He had to call the doctor to have him correct his prescription. The 2nd time, we just had the optometrist that works at LensCrafters redo my eye test and went with that prescription which was different from the opthalmologist. So all doctors are not created equally. Could be your vision is a product of human error.

Did you tell them and are they replacing the glasses/

@Group 5 minus 1 He's an opthamologist. The glasses were purchased elsewhere since his office has a very small selection. We haven't said anything yet. Where we purchased the glasses has an onsight optomotrist who offered to retest us to see if the RX is accurate before we talk to our doc.

I've been wearing tri-focals for 20 years - and went to a very good eye doctor and he got it right the first time. When I put my glasses on, I was able to see and read immediately. He also had state-of-the-art equipment to check my eyes. The eye doctor needs to do this - not his assistant.

You should return the glasses and notify ur insurance co. about the problem. Find another eye doctor. Prior to going to this eye doctor (not sure if he's an opthamologist) - I went to Costco - who didn't get it right.
