Food Trucks

I hear Jane talking a lot about food trucks.

The only food trucks I see around where I live look like standing too close to them you’d get poisoned. Yep! They’re that bad!

Nothing in the truck is refrigerated. The truck looks like it has traveled around the world more than once!

I know in Washington DC there are some nice looking ones and when we’ve gone there; we’ve eaten from there a time or two.

I’ve been craving a good hot dog ever since she started talking about the food trucks.

There’s no place that offers hot dogs.

Has anyone here had good food items at food trucks near where they live? If so...what was on the menu?

NYC has tons of food trucks and you can get any type of food you want. We have a handful out here on Long Island. People follow the schedules if the trucks are in different locations on different days. My friend runs a hamburger food truck with his brother. It's named after their late mother and is also the name of a famous Michael Jackson song. They do VERY well. On weekends they park at one of the wineries and get great crowds in the spring, summer and fall. Because we live in an area with many different ethnic groups, you can find just about any type of food you want.

where I live in illinios,every morning on my way to work,I see a Mexican vendor advertising Mexican breakfast burritos. Never tried tho,especially if there is no refrigeration

I would never buy food from a “food truck” .... any food trucks that I have seen don’t look too clean & some of the people inside the trucks don’t look too appealing either!!! ... just not for me 👎👎🤮🤢

Why are people thinking that food trucks don't have refrigerator units? And in my area, and I'm sure others, they go through the same health and safety inspections as restaurants to obtain their license.

As @Jaspersmom mentioned - there are food trucks all over the place around here (NYC). At lunch time - there are lines of people.

I guess I'm used to it. Before I retired - there was a hotdog vendor a block or so from my building - in nice weather, we'd stop for a hotdog and soda and go sit in the park.

I grew up with roasted chestnuts and pretzels from street vendors!

They're VERY popular - and GOOD- here! We have food truck festivals, usually to benefit a particular cause. I went to one at the high school to benefit the small local theater near us. It was packed- I got to ONE truck! We had the crepe truck, the waffle truck, and all different kinds of food.

Obviously we haven't had any for a while, but in June there will be one at the park that borders our house. They've never been there before. And by June it should be OK to go!

I live in an area that consists of all separate developments. Since the pandemic the neighborhoods have had different food trucks come at scheduled times. These are advertised in the neighborhood websites. This was a treat while we weren't allowed to eat in restaurants and helped the food truck business owners as well. Wewere able to try out the different food trucks offerings.

I've eaten plenty of food from food trucks over the years. Never had a problem with any of it yet and I'd certainly buy from one, if I was hungry and they were selling something I wanted.

As someone else has said, food trucks where I am are subject to the same health regulations as any other eatery. And they certainly have refrigeration units!

I have never eaten from a food truck. It is always so hot in Florida that eating outside in the heat and bugs or in the car is not appealing. When we were in Knoxville, TN. they had a bunch of food trucks downtown and we added up the cost and figured we could go to a restaurant for about the same where we could sit in air conditioning. At festivals I have gotten drinks and funnel cake.

In our area, food trucks are not unusual. Especially in more urban areas. They are compliant with health regulations, and many are known for their good food. Many buy as takeout food, either to bring back to their work setting or home. In fact, during this pandemic, when people were not allowed to eat in restaurants, they did a fantastic business.

A restaurant in our town, run by a noted chef, actually started a food truck outside their restaurant. Very enterprising, I would say.

@Annabellethecat66 There IS refrigeration in food trucks. They need to go through all the same health inspections that a normal restaurant goes through. While I do see food trucks in more urban areas, they are gaining popularity all over. The food trucks offer a much more cost effective way to start a restaurant business then investing in an actual building. My town had Food Truck Fridays all summer long (we are not a big town by any means). Its a great way to get people together and they limit the number of Food Trucks each week.

I'm in the midwest and there are food trucks all over during nice weather. Some have very good reputations. Some are from restaurants that serve only during lunch hours. Downtown has a park in the center and there are always some there in nice weather. I haven't heard of any problems here.

There is a food truck here that sells fried catfish, hushpuppies, cole slaw and a few different desserts. It is pricey, but it is so good. And they certainly have a refrigerator.

As long as the truck has an electrical system, they can have refrigeration and are required to by law.

We have food trucks in Rochester NY. Before covid, they even had "rodeos", where several trucks would gather in one place and it was a picnic atmosphere. They all seem to be clean to me, at least the ones I've seen.

We (coworkers and myself) would walk around our area of DC and get lunch from different food trucks several times a month. My favorite was Jose Andres' truck Pepe. (I'm pretty sure a James Beard award winner has a refrigerated truck - like they all do). 🙄

about 6-7 years ago Crystal City VA used to have a day during the week when a bunch of of food trucks would park in a vacant space along the main drag. And that food was FABULOUS!! I worked with a wonderful young man and he was foodie and a ****** good one. He would research the trucks due to show up and pick one and we would walk about 8 blocks to get to them and boy was it worth it!! For those saying "I would never eat from a food truck" it's your loss. These trucks were clean, had refrigeration and the lines for these trucks got pretty long real fast. I never got sick, the food and the people were so nice. You could have your food made just the way you wanted it. Food trucks get a bad rap usually and the ones I purchased from have all been great. Never had a bad experience. As a matter of fact there is a food truck that used to be at the Culpeper VA Lowes. They sold the most AMAZING brisket and they had their own sauce they would sell with it. It would smell so ****** good. My daugther found out they moved to a permanent spot futher down off one of the main routes. I can't wait to go get some of their brisket. Again their truck is clean, and they are so polite. To each their own but trust me not all food trucks are "e-coli" on wheels.
