Cosby suing 7 accusers...

I didn't see that coming. But it's probably a brilliant strategy. It seems like his attorneys chose some of the most vocal accusers who allege the attacks happened many, many decades ago and have nothing but their word to go on. My friend the lawyer says it's a two-fer. He'll win those carefully selected cases and this lets his lawyers dig into the women's private lives. If they have to pay him damages and court fees and if embarrassing facts from their lives are made public; many of the big group will drop their lawsuits and stop talking and he can quietly settle with some others. That would put an end to the parade of accusers and he can live his remaining years in peace. I don't know if she's right but it's interesting.

He'll never live in peace. He's already "lost" his reputation/name in the public at large. The truth is...that everyone (including me) believe the women. At this point, nothing he can do will change the way he is perceived. The best possible thing he could do would be to "come clean" and apologize--and we know he'll never do that.

If not, is he suing for slander?

Well, according to this link he just lost another honorary degree this week, also .... is he going to sue to get them back? This guy fails to realize that he has no reputation left to salvage.

I hope Gloria Allred gets involved .... while I'm really not a fan of hers, I would never want her coming after me for anything! She's a real shark!

As far as I recall, she is involved, representing a few (2-4?) of the accusers in LA. She's been on the news a few times, ongoing.

While I do not condone what he allegedly did, and not blaming the victims, what was a then 15 year old doing at the Playmate mansion? Why did some go to his room? What did they think he wanted to do, play scrabble?. Again, not blaming them, but if I go to a man,s room at a hotel, I,m not that dumb. They were expecting something from him, but not what did allegedly happen.

Maybe his suing will be a good thing for future young women to be careful in their choices

Well, keep in mind that he's a predator ... and many times a predator comes across as nice, friendly, helpful, trustworthy etc etc etc until he has them alone. Back then, he was friendly funny Cliff Huxtable on the Cosby show. I'm sure they thought that's who he really was.

Not blaming any victim either...but a couple things come to mind and I agree with the poster who said what is a 15 year-old doing at the Playboy Mansion for one and two what were they thinking going to his room..Cliff H or not..he is still a man..a older man!! I at 15 definitely knew better and I was not wordly enough to be going to the Playboy Mansion..

My other thought is why did they wait several decades later to say something?? I get that he was a powerful popular actor and figure but many took notice and are listening NOW...I am sure many would then ..more so if they had evidence of the crime.

Personally taking away Honorary Degrees is not going to do much to him..a public scolding maybe but he has enough money and royalities that he can live his life out quite comfy.

Cosby was famous he used this to his advantage with women. The 15 year old well maybe she looked much older and who knew. This guy got away with this for years. Now he is reveled and more women coming forward. I cant judge the victims but I will say he has a lot of nerve to sue anyone. Clever tactic but his reputation is ruined for his sleazy acts.

Oh, get real and stop making jokes. And stop insulting women. NOT one of those women confused Cosby with a PART he played on tv. That's insulting. His career did not begin with that tv role anyway. He was a well known comdedian and actor long before the Huxtable character. Those women made the choice to cozy up to Cosby because they either hoped he would help them with their careers or they allowed themselves to be him when he said he would do wonderful things for them. More them one was quite willing to hop on that casting couch. All of them knew that a woman should not go off somewhere and meet privately with a stranger. Even if he is a rich celebrity. Why? BECAUSE even a rich celebrity can be a nut case who will drug your drink and attach you! Which sadly is exactly what happened to some (definitely not all) of the accusers. They let their greed and ambition cloud the judgement. And THAT is the story young women need to know. That just might be the only good thing that comes out of this sordid and sorry tale.

He's probably doing so to 'save face'. Also, to keep any others from coming forward to accuse him so they will be afraid. He's guilty in my court.

While I don't dispute your assessment, it's all 20/20 hindsight. Cosby was a master at pretending to be a nice helpful guy. When this story broke, even on this message board, people were shocked because they thought he was just like the Huxtable character.

I don't believe for one minute that all these women thought they'd have to have secks with this jerk. For actors (at all levels) trying to get acting jobs, you can never know too many people. There ARE seasoned people in the entertainment biz who mentor promising talent. Maybe the context within the industry helps explain how this happened. This industry is like no other.

We are all aware of the danger of drugs slipped into drinks in 2015 ..... back in the 70's and 80's .... not so much. "Roofies" (rohypnol) weren't even invented until some time in the 1990s.

I just don't ascribe to your "blame the victim" and boys will be boys mentality. Men shouldn't be off the hook for bad behavior by blaming the women! Bottom line .... it wasn't CONSENSUAL.

regardless of what happens with these court cases the man is ruined. he will never, ever get his reputation and good standing in the community back.

maybe this will make his conscience feel better......well then bully for him. these women are strong and have lived with it this long, they will survive. they don't need his money.

true...but they want his money. Otherwise, now that story is out and the world sees Cosbly for what he is....what's the point of a civil suit? They've accomplished their goal of outing a secksual abuser. They managed to live their lives for 30, 35, 40 years. He can't be prosecuted for anything. Obviously the ones suing want cash. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's fact.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I'd read that if the statute of limitations had run out, there can be no cash settlements. Was this incorrect?

Cosby has to do "something" to continue to pretend he's the poor innocent victim in all this ...... I just hope that his counter suit for damaging his "ruined" reputation doesn't cost these women a ton of money for lawyers!
