ON A LIGHTER NOTE.....

I didn't know whether to post here or on Pet Forum since DH is now in the DOG HOUSE.

While doing the dinner dishes, with soapy hands, he dropped 3 plates, hit the tile floor and splintered into hundreds of pieces. We were already "down" 2 dinner plates in the set, so I got a little extra worked up.

"All is calm" now as the song goes...Will be ordering a set of dishes from Amazon tomorrow.

Oh no...My husband will always help me when needed, but I have to admit sometimes it's easier to do things myself! I was cleaning up the kitchen, DH is helping, I asked him to take the base to 3 tiered plate holder and put it back on the hutch in the living room....I heard a bunch of clutter and looked into the dining room...he was taking things out of my Hoosier cupbard to make room for the plate holder!! The plate holder and plates have always lived on the hutch in the living room.........

Enjoy the new dishes! I am sure your husband felt bad, but Oh my, what a mess with all that broken glass.

Look on the bright side, you get to order new dishes. Before you order from amazon check out Macy's. They always have good deals on dishes.

Bummer...

Reminds me of a time my DH painted a 1960's mod graphic trash can black. I had just re-done the guest bath but hadn't changed out the trash can yet....came home from work to a spray painted black trash can. Or the time I came home to find an expensive picture frame spray painted green. Sigh...I just took a deep breath and remembered that I love him and he was 'trying' to help.

@mspatmac Oh, we have a nice dishwasher and he was rinsing plates to go in there. His hands were slippery with Dawn. For some reason, when he does dishes, they're clean enough to go back in the cabinet before the dishwasher. I just scrape off the food and let the machine do its work.

Prevention--a memory of a Christmas dinner past.

Getting ready for the dessert course, I got up to clear the table. My sister asked her oldest daughter to help with carrying in the plates.

Now, these were very ornate Wedgewood plates with gold dragons on the green outer band. We had gotten them for practically peanuts on our honeymoon and on subsequent trips back to Jamaica before the price of gold skyrocketed. I suggested that at approx. $350/plate, she might prefer to bring in the cutlery at her young age !

Sister thought that was a great idea, lol !

Great opportunity for you to add new dish ware to all your other new things !

@queendiva I really didn't want a new set...hoping the "broken set" and my every day dishes (full set) would make it nicely until we downsized. I already sold good china.

Unless you purchase real good china, that you can get open stock, the inexpensive dishes I'd be looking for coming boxed in a set with cups, saucers, salad plates, etc. I really don't want all those pieces. We use mugs...have a set of 12, don't need the cups and rarely need dessert plates. Will have to check around.

Going forward he might want to consider wearing rubber gloves. They grip wet dishes better than bare hands. I have a dishwasher but seldom use it so I use rubber gloves to hand wash dishes.

@Winkk Poor thing always wears rubber gloves. He handles so much paper in his work, drying to his hands, dishwater would really be overkill. The dishes just slipped out of his hands. I think he was rushing to get to a ball game or something on TV.

He feels really badly. On the bright side, he's going out this afternoon to find me my favorite pumpkin pie, if any left.

@Shanus I understand how handling a lot of paper can affect your hands. I had to be digitally fingerprinted for my job at school. After 40 years of shufflng paper the prints were wearing off my fingertips....they had to re-do mine lol!

I know your DH feels bad. I just HATE worrying if I got every little sliver of glass off the floor ... it is so easy to miss something.

@alicedee Oh, the chards were everywhere. We were more worried about Molly (no shoes LOL) and quickly crated her until we could vacuum twice, sweep and then turned out the lights and put the light on our cells and looked over every 1 foot tile...the grout held lots of bits. We even moved the frig. and had to check under the dishwasher. If it had been a wood floor like the rest of house, not as much of a bang!

After 30 years of making jewelry and hands accidently getting into acids and patinas, I have no fingerprints that could be found. DH also has a stock broker's license that required both get fingerprinted and a background check.

Aww, I would look at it this way... at least he was willing to help and actually do the dishes. And so what, if a few slip that just means it was time for new dishes anyway.

Over the weekend, we were out running errands. I was exausted and asked DH to drive. Well, he turned on a turn too quickly and hit the tire right on the curb and blew out the tire. Yes, I was upset. I had a lot to say and I said it. I know he felt bad.

Next day, he made up for it and arranged to get the new tire. I let it go and we both apologized. I felt so much lighter and happier! I realized, people and their safety matter first, then other things.

Get some paper plates. He's found a new way out of dishes though!!!
