MY MOUSE IS SLIDING

Hi. This doesn't go on Pet Forum. I have my new laptop on a lap desk or my kitchen desk. This is new to me since I've used an IPAD with a touch screen for many years. So, now my red mouse sits here next to me and if I move the wrong way, even with a mouse pad, it's sliding which causes typing errors since the cursor ends up in the wrong place....Well, don't have to explain that to ya'll.

I haven't mastered the touch pad (the grey felt square below the keyboard?) yet. Is that the solution to eliminate the sliding mouse or do they make something to put under it to keep it from slipping away?

My last computer was about 15 years ago, a massive desk top monitor with keyboard underneath in a pull out drawer. I did have a mouse, but it was larger and I don't remember the slippery issue. Any advice appreciated.

I cut a mousepad in half (didn't have space for a whole one) and it stopped the sliding.

@CalminHeart Thanks for the tip. Are you finding mouse pads "different", not in a good way, from years ago? Less grip?

@Shanus I literally have my Mac laptop on my lap sitting on my couch. I don't use the touchpad--never mastered it. I use a "linen finish" type magazine as my mousepad to avoid the slide effect.

There is also a way (which I don't recall) to slow down the speed of your mouse--maybe it is in the "tools" bar.

They aren't as thick as they used to be. I bought a cheap one and haven't had any issues with the grip. The mouse moves smoothly across it without slipping. It did the trick for me.

I have never used a pad, the mouse just sits on the desk, not slippery. I also hate the touch square and typing on a screen is enough to drive me NUTS. I worked in offices most of my life with a typewriter. Perhaps those that don't touch type have an easier time with this "new" technology.

Ordered our mouse pad on amazon. it is made by Fellowes, says microban on it. it has a soft cushy bottom for your wrist to rest on. the whole thing is soft and not slippery. It is fabulous!!!!!!

@depglass Thank God, no. We've had enough repairs this year!! I don't have an issue typing. Using the mouse is the pits...making sure the cursor is where it should be. It's a tiny little thing, but so are my hands...wireless....guess they all are. If you've noticed for the last month, most of my posts are "edited" because I catch errors in spelling, spacing, punctuation, etc. where the mouse has slid over and I didn't notice before continuing to type. Tehnology and I are not friends.

@Shanus I’m so glad it’s your mouse you are having a problem with. I glanced at the topic and thought it said your HOUSE was sliding! Guess I need an eye exam.

@Shanus I highly recommend that you try using the track pad. It does take some time to get used to it but not that long. I love it. I think I might have trouble using a mouse now.

Thanks for the confidence booster @NickNack . I'll have time (HA HA) this weekend to practice. If anyone sees some weird posts here, it's me on the touch pad.....not the mouse.
