The Word "Transparent"

Anytime I watch TV (news, talk shows, a comedy, newer movies, etc.) I hear the word "transparent" used. Gosh, a few years ago I don't think I ever heard it used.

About 20 years ago, I remember the word that I thought was also used way too often was "awesome".

Have you noticed this too? (And I'm not referring to words that QVC hosts use - I've seen posts previously all about that). :-)

All the time, but their definition of transparency actually means conceal.

No, I can't say I have been hearing the word transparent.

I do remember awesome used a lot or "no problem" instead of thank you!😜 Words or phrases used ad infinitum

I've been watching the British mysteries a lot and many times they say "Cheers", like we would say thank you. Does that count?😄

There are many words and expressions that come and go and are used excessively. While I do use some of the words and expressions now and then, I end up sticking to the way I have always spoken and do not lean on certain words because everyone uses them. I used to that more when I was younger and hanging out with my friends. But as an adult I use whatever words I like. I love English and reading and do not have a problem with dipping into vocabulary words which aren't used much.

@Foxxee, we tend to think it means "conceal" if we don't agree with their stance; if we do agree, then we approve of the use of "transparency."

I heard the word transparent/transparency being used a lot 2-3 years ago but I've rarely heard it in the past year or so.

I use "awesome" all the time. I need to come up with a different expression!

Seriously... I don't 'reach out', I call or email... 'Transparency' has become grossly over-used and frankly, grossly over-rated... and I 'trust science' when science has something meaningful to offer... All these things are, to me, sounding pat and idiotic, some for quite a while... Not a fan of buzz words...

Here are a few: conflate, dispositive, fugazy, proactive,wrap my head around, ghosting, potus, scotus and any other -otus, toxic, most important election of our time.

I don't mind hearing transparent as much as I do hearing the world "surreal" Too many interviews where that's all people say is this or that is so surreal.

I belong to a Facebook group and there is/was a member that used it all the time.

She is a library trustee and was being "transparent" when she would post that she was a library trustee, when she doxed another member, when she had no knowledge why she wasn't included in the decision making to re-open the library for certain hours and when she knew nothing about Hoopla.

After someone called her out on her need to tell us she was a library trustee everytime she posted on a library post she didn't come back.

Transparent , as far as as I'm concerned, is when you can see through my nightgown. Now hubby still thinks that's awesome!!

I am sick of the phrases "super cute" "stinking cute", or "super" anything. Another is "rocking that outfit". Dumbest thing I have ever heard.
