Sarcasm?

Ive been seeing a lot of posts about lost pets in my neighborhood lately. Lost dog, cat, parrot, turtle etc etc.... everyday.

So, me and a couple of neighbors asked out of concern as to why it was happening and for some of us they're just like our kids. Its worrisome with all the scorching heat and the pandemic, It pains me to see them lost. Couple of women responded in a strange hostile sarcasm and said that I should'nt judge them and then turned around and judged me assuming the worst lol. It ended with them saying something like this: "if we all can be as perfect as you."

I mean in reality, everyone judges on this planet. Although, I was not judging but asking a question out of concern.

I really dont understand sarcasm because to me personally its just childish. Did I just hit a nerve? How do You respond?

The world is getting to be a very strange place .. I too notice that

people are immediately on the defensive .....ready to argue at the

drop of a hat ....I think reality TV makes it seem like the norn....

I understand sarcasm. I think everyone in my family is sarcastic but it does not usually translate well to the written word.

I would just ignore the comment.

@mintedrose I completely understand your concern but if I may ask, did you only speak to those who had a sign posted about a missing pet and did you go as a group? While there is no excuse for rudeness I wonder if they felt accused. Some people get defensive so quickly even in general conversation. I would have walked away to avoid any escalation and not say what I really wanted to say.

Perhaps the pet owners felt you were being judgmental about the way the people take care of their pets because you said you were comparing them to your children. Instead of your comment sounding concerned, it probably sounded critical.

I am sure nobody wants to ever lose a pet, but I wonder what kind of neighborhood you live in--are there lots and lots of families and children and pets? Is it noisy, and is there a lot of movement? Do children run around and pets follow?

Animals can be unpredictable. I had a dog who could climb or jump any fence and frequently escaped, although we always got him back and he lived until 18. When I was a little girl, one of my pet cats would always try to run outside. A pet turtle sitting in a yard could potentially be grabbed by a hawk. A bird can easily fly out in a second when a door opens.

Yes, I know from experience because I have had all these pets and still have many!

I would have told the worried neighbors that I was sorry for their loss and I would be keeping an eye out for the pets, and please let me know if I can help in any other way.

Ignore them. They aren't worth your time. They are probably negligent and don't want to be caught.

I care NOT about WHAT some rando human says to me or thinks about me-(true story).

I DO HOWEVER always CARE ABOUT AN ANIMAL in DISTRESS for ANY REASON, and will always respond with my concern for animals front and center.

Had someone said that to me I'dve replied - Grow Up, it's about my concern for the animals.

Honestly, @mintedrose ,it depends on what you said and how you said it. If you implied the owners were negligent in keeping their pets safe, or saying that they were somehow to blame, or that you yourself would never be so careless, then I can understand their reaction.

Just throwing this out as another possibility. If course I was not there.

I would have gone on the defensive even if it wasn't my pet. You didn't mean it as judgmental but it is the type that comes across that way. People are scared and worried when a pet gets loose and it affects how they interpret such a question.

@Foxxee It's rarely negligence. Like kids, animals are curious and can find even the tiniest escapes in a split second. Stuff happens. A little compassion goes a long way.

People can get quite defensive if they perceive they are being judged harshly. There are irresponsible guardians of animals, to be sure. But then there are instances where a pet can escape, and it creates much anguish.

In general now, I'm more careful with words. People tend to be short of patience and grumpy...and with reason. Look what's going on around our country.

@mintedrose I do not know if it was sarcasm or just hostile. One of our preachers in our area said we are in a time when our world has become hostile and vile in our ways. This too is a prime example and I literally would not respond. The only one who has a right to judge you is the Lord so let it go!

It seems like just about every day, a dog is lost/missing in our general area.

And, I've (secretly) thought: How does a dog escape from a well fenced yard or inside a house. (?)

Btw:

There is a cutie who seems to be outdoors, on and near busy streets, almost every two or so days.

Owners tells folks that he doesn't cross the street..........However, neighbors see him everywhere....up, down, and across the streets.

I think he jumps out of their always open window. (Which is dangerous, as the window is about 5' or more high.

Not being sarcastic, it's just that I'm often wondering 'why' and 'how', etc.

Yesterday driving home I saw the most beautiful dog running in the road -- poor thing was obviously scared & lost.

I was flicking the lights and blowing the horn to alert oncoming drivers - I pulled over to side of road. The dog looked well groomed, collared.

I am scared of dogs I don't know but God Bless this young man behind me pulled over to help.

He jumped out of his truck and immediately grabbed the dog. I had bottles of water, he gave dog water & I called the number on the tags. The older lady didn't know he got out of yard.

I can only assume a happy ending because he & sweet puppy drove away together to take him to his owner.

So, when I see these type of posts on FB & NextDoor I only hope these owners find their pets especially with so many sad stories of alligators or coyotes lately attacking innocent animals.

@homedecor1 May God Bless You for helping a frightened animal! What a nice thing to do especially since you are frightened of dogs. It shows what a good, kind person you are.
