Grocery stores and aisles

Talked to my friend this AM. She lives in the Cleveland area. Said her grocery store (I think it is Giant Eagle) has people go one way in an aisle and then another way in another. I think that is so smart. Wish that would be done here in Michigan. We were there (Meijer) and it was so discombobulated (SP??).

Was in a regular grocery store early this morning. They had it marked you could only go up and down them one way. Aisles are narrow, so this makes sense. There was hardly anyone there, so it was no problem for me.

I shop Giant and was there yesterday. My favorite grocery store. They also

have their carts wiped down and ready to go for their customers and they

direct you right to the cashier when you have finished shopping.

I just opened an email from them and starting on Monday they are also

limiting the amount of shoppers in the store. Requesting just one member

of each family too.

Every week the stores around here, PA, are making changes.

Same with my Giant in PA. The problem is when someone is oblivious and goes against traffic. And when someone is standing in the aisle staring at the shelf contemplating their next purchase while you patiently wait for them to make the big decision.

Day 11 since I've been to a supermarket, and my assessment today is that I can eat a decent balanced diet for about 5 more days before I'll need to venture to one.

The good news is that my neighbors are reporting the area stores are working hard to learn ways to provide for us and still keep us safe. I'm expecting a much improved experience next week - and last week's wasn't really bad.

Our Meijer here in upper MI has been doing the one-way aisles for a few weeks now.

Our IGA store now has directional arrows taped on the floor directing shoppers as to down this aisle and up this one, in order to help with social distancing.

I understand why it was done, but my goal when I walk thru the door is to get what’s on my list, and get out the door as quickly as possible. I hate grocery shopping, so it is honestly a speed race for me thru that store, I’m not focusing on directional arrows.

My last trip there was at 8 a.m., $270 purchase in 9 minutes.

They have the arrows in my store too, but some people do not care. One lady came the wrong way, and reached right in front of me. I told her to please follow the arrows, as they are there for a reason. She could care less.

I think the directional signs are a good thing. I've only been to the grocery a couple times in the past month. The only thing different was plexiglass at the register.

I went Thursday to a big grocery in my town. My first time there in a long time. They had the arrows. BUT, did they have them at eye level? NO. They had them ON THE FLOOR at the beginning of each aisle. I don't know about you but when I'm turning into an aisle my eyes are not on the floor, they are looking ahead to where I'm going. Plus I was pushing a cart so as I rounded an aisle my cart would be over the arrows so even if I was looking at the floor I wouldn't have seen them.

Thus, I found myself going against the flow several times and had to either back up or hang a U turn. It's a fine idea but IMO not a bright idea to place them on the floor. Put them where you can't miss them. If your store has them on the stupid floor understand maybe they were not seen, because I sure as the devil took awhile to catch on that I had to look DOWN to follow the maze.

I'll be danged! Your store must not have had many shopping while you were there. Guess with, at 1 time 13 indoor felines, I learned I better look at the floor or i will trip over 1 of them. Now with only 6 and 1 canine, I still do the same.

For me I guess what other people are doing in the aisle I would probably notice, but on the floor signs are perfectly fine for me, and I know my wife would agree. She too has tripped over more than 1 furry one over the years.

I like that idea of one direction in the store. Smart. We haven't started it in my Midwest suburb yet. I made a quick trip this morning into Sprouts (similar to Whole Foods) to pick up fruits and vegetables. Okay, and a pie for tomorrow. And some macaroons. Doi! There were employees wiping down carts and sitting outside exits counting people going in and out. People in the store were so kind and patient. Most wore masks, but smiled with their eyes. You can tell. In and out in 10 minutes. No litter left in parking lot or carts. Good experience. I usually do online grocery pick up and gas at the pump so this was my rare 'people contact' trip.

Our Giant has been doing that for about 2 weeks. The problem - you still have the covidiots that think things don't apply to them.

I had to go to Walmart to pickup a prescription - it was pure chaos in there. Think of every stereotype of Walmart you can think of and it was happening in Walmart.

I shop at Giant for my groceries. Those one way aisles drive me crazy! I understand it and agree with it (for the narrow aisles) but for pete's sake I find myself accidentally going down the wrong way and have to turn around and go the right way. I feel like I have to go the long way to get to what I want. lol

My husband went to Safeway today. They had the one way aisles.....but in the vegetable and fruit section he said it was a free for all.....so what good is having one way aisles... and parts of the store just go as you please?

Our stores just started this but they've been so quiet when I've been in there that it doesn't matter. Our rush happened the second week in March with our first case and went for about two weeks and people I guess really got stocked up. So I'm currently enjoying shopping more than usual since I'm one of those super fast shoppers myself.
