Graduation and Wedding Postponed

Two of my grandchildren, brother and sister, have two important events coming up. In May, my granddaughter is earning her bachelor's degree and my grandson is getting married. The graduation ceremony has just been canceled. My grandson and his fiancée have been working on postponement of their reception. They'll go to Baltimore City Hall to be married on the wedding date they had planned. The reception will be held when the virus has passed.

My granddaughter is crushed. She told me she was so looking forward to walking across the stage to get her diploma. My grandson has taken this stress more in stride than his fiancée has. We all know, however, that wedding planning and celebrations are more about the bride than the groom. Still, there is great disappointment and sadness in the family. Being more philosophical, my husband and I simply want our grandchildren and our children to be well. We can celebrate later.

Our Grandsons' college graduation also is cancelled here in CO. It is sad for sure but nothing can be done about it. Diplomas will be mailed.

That is sad for them.

I'm surprised the feelings about graduation and wanting to be there.

I remember not wanting to go to college grad at all, the last thing I wanted to do.

I went because my mother and father wanted to see me go across that stage.

Then I made a determination never to go back. Proud of myself I kept that determination lol!

I did take a course later for job purposes but that was the end of that!

People should not be traveling at this time, so what is being done is wise. Of course it is extremely disappointing to miss out on such significant events.

I know that UConn has cancelled their graduation, as well. I guess there has been some talk about having some sort of a ceremony once this horrible time has passed. So many of us remember that very happy day, and I hope that eventually all graduates can be honored. And the chance to have families share in their happiness.

I can’t imagine the disappointment of having to cancel a planned wedding. Perhaps the couple can look forward to a celebration when it is safe again.

I don't even check anymore. The world is canceled and/or closed. Period. Of course, when we get the "all clear", plans can be made and hopefully day to day activities will go back to near normal. I doubt any of us will forget this, not learn from it, be prepared for any future event (God forbid) or take mundane things for granted.

For those of us still healthy, keeping in touch and busy here on the forums, stay well and wait it out. This too shall pass.

Our high school senior prom was cancelled. They are waiting to decide on graduation which was scheduled for June 1.

@mimomof4 I just bought my daughter her dress 2 to 3 weeks ago. She is a

senior in high school and this was going to be her first prom. Now I guess

all the dress will do is catch dust!

My daughter is a high school senior, and also her class salutatorian. Nothing is official, but we're hearing no graduation ceremony. She is disappointed, but understands.

On the bright side, she was accepted into the premed program at the college of her choice. I know things could be worse. She and so many others have worked hard for that diploma and it breaks my heart to see her disappointed.

@threecees That is horrible and I'm sure your not the only one in this situation. The boys rent so they get off easy. I don't have a senior this year but it really sucks that all these activities they look forward to happening once they are a senior are now being taken away.
