Unbelievable Neighbor Request Part 1

A couple that owned a home on our street was going to move in to their home which had always been rented. DH met them and gave our # and offered to answer questions for them. They had a managment co. handling their home who told them a window was broken out which was against HOA rules.

They called Us and asked if we would go down to the home and wait (maybe all day) for the repair company to come, No time given. We said "no" please ask your managment co to do it as they were still getting paid.

The request wouldn't be a big deal to me...I'd give my phone number to the repair company & have them call me when they arrived.

@kitcat51That is a nice idea but we did not have the owner's # or the repair co.

I sure would do that for one of my neighbors that I know in this neighborhood but didn't have the ability with that couple. They called from another state. It really was the rental co's job I think.

@Jackhound Mom Reading your "neighbor requests" I'm very happy I don't live in your 'hood. What a bunch of freeloading people you have to deal with. Have you been living there long? Or are you a "newbie" that the neighbors feel they can take advantage of?

They asked, your husband declined. I don't see anything worth posting about. Your husband approached them and gave them his number and probably said something like; call me if I can be of any help to you. So they did......

I don't want to be responsible for other people's property or repair issues. So for me i'd say no.

Thanks for your question. We moved and the things I wrote about were just small issues. I've lived all over the country and never had things like these happen and I'm 65 now. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. We stayed 4 years and many strange things happened. Moved there to be nearer our next large city for specialty doctors but moved back to another city we loved very much and still have many of our old neighbors there that we enjoy very much.

If your husband met them and gave them your #, then they must have been there in person and not out of state at the time.

Wouldn't there have been an exchange of #'s when seeing them in person?

I get you may not have the repair company's # but it seems they would have at least told you who was coming to repair the window??

They would have to be let in which begs another question-how would the repair company managed to repair the window?

I get what you are saying about not wanting to be there waiting for the repair person but I'm not following how you could not get in touch with them when they obtained your # in person.

My post was only about me, it's just something that I'd being willing to do...of course the person asking for help in this case would have to supply a key & the repair company contact information & they would do that if I said Yes. I've been helped so helping others is no big deal & it doesn't matter if they live nearby or in another State.

All good questions. These folks had never lived in their home in AZ, always rented it out through a rental company. They were in from MN and DH just happened to walk by, chatted and gave them our # incase they had any questions. They did not tell him their last name, when they were moving in, or give him a key. The rental managment co. was instructed to leave the home open. We had traded #'s with all our neighbors and there was also our # online with Del Webb which is an over 55 gated community. I should mention that their names were never on our list, only their managment rental company.

Can't make this stuff up and solidifies my stance in keeping my cordial "waving hi" with most of my neighbors.

That's how I see it too.

They asked, got an answer, and that was the end of it. I don't think there was anything particularly outrageous or unbelievable about it.
