How to Write Good

1. Avoid alliteration. Always.

2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

3. Avoid cliches like the plague. They're old hat.

4. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.

5. Be more or less specific.

6. Writers should never generalize.

Seven. Be consistent.

8. Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly superflouous.

9. Who needs rhetorical questions?

10. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

Thanks for the refresher course in writing good.I bookmarked this enlightening and highly educational post so I won't forget where it's at! Sometimes I lose a thread and if it had been a snake it would have bitten me because it was right under my nose the whole time. Right?

That is why I prefer talking, preferably face to face. Of course I exclude members of the PC Police. They make up what offends them "on the fly"..

As far as writing? If I understand the message that is fine with me. Perfection in how one speaks or writes doesn't even make my list.

I really enjoyed that. We need to learn how to write and speak clearly and correctly. Years ago, my French professor at Cornell told me that she retired because she could not teach a foreign language to students who have no understanding of the structure of their own language. As Groucho Marx once said, " Last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas. What he was doing in my pajamas I'll never know."
