Mole Removal

A friend is having a mole surgically removed from her chest. She is going to the doctor alone. Does that seem okay?

I've had several removed. I was fine alone. I did head right home because sometimes the anesthesia wears off early. Even then, it wasn't that bad.

I think it is ok. I have had moles removed at the dr.s office also and went by myself. Everything was ok.

I can add my assurance. I've had it done and in my case they just numbed the area and took it out. She should be fine.

I had a mole removed just last week - about half the size of a penny. On my chest, but where arm joins in. A shot of Novocaine (or something) in the area, and off went the mole. Three stitches. No pain, and no general anesthetic. If she was to be put to sleep for the removal she should have someone there to drive her home - just a precaution. But a general anesthetic would be rare.

If this is being done in a doctors office, the area will only be numbed and there shouldn't be a problem. If this is being done as an outpatient procedure at a surgical center, or day surgery unit, their routine is that someone must accompany the patient. I had a benign lesion removed from my chest in September, and was in and out in under 30 minutes.

It's a very minor procedure done with just a local anesthetic. Of course she can go alone.

It should be OK. The mole will be sent to pathology. If, as happened to me, the mole is found to be cancer, she will have to return for further surgery and then she will need someone to drive her.

Of course she'll be able to drive herself home. She'll still be pretty numbed up so she'll feel fine until the meds wear off a few hours later. Heck I drive myself everytime I get my eyes checked which means driving with my eyes dialated. The nurses just give me an extra pair of sunglasses to wear for the trip home.
