Time goes so fast

now that i am 60 sometimes i just feel like things have gone by so fast, flown by actually. i wonder where all of the years went? i always read life is short and now at this age i am feeling kind of sad alot of times. so many family friends have died over the past 10 years and relatives. it makes me sad too. with my mom being gone too it makes me see how fast life goes. i get sad and meloncholy and sentimental.

am i the only one that this happens to?

No, it's a well known phenomenon that time passes more quickly, the older you get. Remember how long it seemed to get to be 16 or 18 years old? It seemed endless when you were a kid. Now, we wonder how 10 years passed so quickly.

Hey ~ I look at all my grown Children, and I too wonder how it went so fast. I always say ~ "I Want A Do-Over!"

@WildFlowerUnicorn, I completely understand where you are coming from. At 66 I have lost many of my friends to illness. My best friend died in 2006 and I think of him every day. Countless other friends have passed and I often ask myself why. I no longer have my brother to talk to because he suffered brain damage from a fall and is in a facility. He doesn't know me.

Getting older isn't for sissies. I think it may have been Bette Davis who said that......

I am a little older than you, and I too get a little sentimental and more aware of time. I try to focus on “now” and make an effort everyday to get out and enjoy the moment. I think that is the key. I also think the thing that has helped me is having three young granddaughters ages 1, 2, and 6. There is never a dull moment! Just thankful to have those moments. I wish you happiness for many years to come.

I am sixty two and time definitely flies by!!! It makes me realize that I need to do all the things I want and to enjoy life to the fullest. I lost my Sister a year ago and she was sixty five. Now I am an only child and that is really strange. My Mother will be eighty eight next month. The one thing I know is that I don't spend time feeling bad about what I no longer have just grateful for what I have had. Life is a wonderful adventure and I am enjoying every moment of it!

@WildFlowerUnicorn I completely understand. I'm 70, and can't believe I'm that old either. I think we all go through this "awakening" period around our 60's. I try to focus on all the good that I still have left in my life, and the fact that I'm still here. I'm thankful that I started paying attention to my health and fitness at an early age, but if the good Lord decides it's my time, I will be ready to move on to the next life. I still look in the mirror sometimes and wonder where that young girl went......I know she still lives inside of me!

Yes, it is a fast ride when you ponder in the past. Why not look ahead and enjoy the ride!!!

Besides, it’s worth everything when you think of all “misery” you can give your kids (especially with your grands and great grands looking on) hahaha!!

Life is GREAT when you know how to LIVE it...

I know exactly what you are talking about. I wonder how did I get here so fast. I spent a few months thinking about the shoulda, woulda, couldas and then after recovering from a serious illness decided nope, not going there.

Every day is a gift that we are given. I start each day with a praise and thank-you, and then only concentrate on this day. Tomorrow hasn't gotten here yet.

@wildFlowerunicorn, YES! My 60th birthday hit me like a ton of bricks and for the first time in my life I felt OLD. It made me feel very sad and regretful to look back on some very foolish choices and realize that I was running out of time for do-overs. I also felt a need to once and for all get my affairs in order. I definitely look at life differently - I have more gratitude and don't sweat the small stuff as much. I speak up for myself more and feel more comfortable saying "no thank you". I take good care of myself, and am more cautious in general because I know that "if" I fall down, bouncing back is gonna be a lot harder than it was.

This thread is kind of depressing me! But I appreciate your thoughts and I wish you the best. I think my dad went through this years ago when he was forced to retire due to poor health. He foundered a lot and was depressed and melancholy. But over time he found his groove and has a much better attitude now and does things he ejoys. He has a good outlook even though his health sucks and he has poor mobility. I think he looks at it like every day is a day I'm going to enjoy and I might drop dead tomorrow so let's do this.

Everyone at some point goes through those emotions.

At almost 75, I choose to dwell on what I want to do, accomplish, enjoy, etc. Everything in my past has become a memory ( good, indifferent, negative ) and I concentrate on making future memories.

Being retired and in good health with DH beside me, I take each day as a gift: I unwrap it and use it.

As quoted in Ecclesiastes, to each season there is a purpose....discoveries are there to be savored as long as there is breath in the body !!!

I turned 60 also and yes I’m reflecting and it gets overwhelming at times but I am glad I am still here and I hope we are all here for many many many many many many more years. ❤️

The reason you are feeling the way you do is because you are on the other end of the life cycle. Feeling depressed is not uncommon, because with age comes loss. Loss of friends and loved ones, physical appearance, maybe you have health problems. This is all a part of aging and if you feel depressed don't let others who put a happy face on aging and loss influence you, just because it doesn't bother them , doesn't mean it doesn't bother you. That being said, grieve all those losses and then find something that interests you and do not pal around with people who are depressed.Live the rest of your life as happily as you can.Just my 2 cents, but it works for me.

Yes, life goes by so fast. I am not sure how it happened.

I remember when I was younger, my children used to call me Sister Carmela Marie and told me me I was a goody two shoes. Way too conservative. I told them I am saving my sassiness for my old age.

Well, I figure My time has arrived. I am not dead yet. Heck, I could have another 25 years to go and don't plan to waste any time. This is my time to do what I want.

Last week, I cut my granddaughter's hair. She and her friends went crazy. They all loved it. They couldn't believe an " old lady" could do a cut like that. That made my day. I am old, but I still got some good moves.

I try not to dwell on my age or losses. I try to make some good memories.

A man in his 80s told me the good years fly by. The unpleasant years drag. I'm trying to think in these terms. I'm reflecting more often. Music brings powerful memories. So much history. So many memories. I keep thinking I should enjoy each day because we're not a stranger to loss.

I dont dwell on things. I just have my moments of feeling how I described. I dont have kids and my husband is gone,

but I try to keep busy. Each day is a blessing. I try and keep my mind on good things and not on the past and on things I cant change.

No children in my life either, so....there are days I don't know I've gotten "old."

I think most of us know how you feel. I try to stay positive, and have many blessings in my life, including a husband who has been a great partner. Not a Saint, but mostly good

At 30, life stretched out ahead of me...now, at 68, I look back and wonder where those years have gone.
