Plastic Bag Collection = Do you?

I'm starting to think accumulating plastic bags is a mental illness.

Three years ago, I started storing plastic bags to make "Plarn" (DIY yarn made from plastic bags).

I thought I'd make a "business" out of hand-made "plarn" items. Over time, after making a few baskets, rugs and mattresses, I got bored and stopped.

But I didn't stop storing the bags.

WHY?

Why am I storing these bags if I'm not going to use them?

Does anyone else do this?

No, they take up too much space. Grocery stores here have containers which accept plastic bags for recycling. Get rid if the bags.

I don't think you are weird @RinaRina Collecting the bags became a habit while you were working on your plarn business. You just need to break the habit.

Yes, I keep the bags for cleaning out my kitty's litter box. Also we have a project

going on to make mattresses for homeless people, they turned out beautiful. There are many uses. We sure could use a bunch for our project..

I use them to line my small trash bin in my bathroom. And when I go to the Big Box store I use them to bag up my groceries.

We use our own bags 98% of the time. I have a collection of reusable bags in every car. From small bags to large insulated bags.

The few times we get plastic bags we recycle them.

I really think stores should charge for plastic bags. One our recent travels was to an area that charged .10 per bag and all the bags were paper, no plastic.

We use plastic bags for all kinds of things. I carry plastic bags in my purse just in case I see trash when I’m out walking, which is usually all the time; also, to protect my purse in the event of rain. I also keep them in the car for trash, extra shoes, etc. I use them at home for small amounts of trash and for storage. I use them to carry things to waiting rooms or hospitals so in case of germs I can dispose of them later. Any extras are recycled.

I keep a few plastic ones in the back of my car; however, rarely use them unless I have to wrap meat in them (so it doesn't leak). Years ago bought two sturdy compartmentalized dividers made for cargo areas of an SUV. I either go through the self-checkout lanes or if I go through regular ones and I load the groceries back into the cart while cashier is ringing them up.

Go to the car, open the hatch, load groceries into the dividers and head home - once there I can pick each divider up and carry those into the house to unload.

Plastic bags have been banned from my county and soon the ban will go statewide. I hated it in the beginning, but now I'm used to it and feel I'm doing something good for the environment.

I keep all of mine. I put them in the bottom of small trash cans throughout my house and then one by one I line the can. When I toss our "whatever" then I can easily remove it and put in my big dumpster trash can. I find it neater and easier to clean out and take away. I would not be a happy camper if they are banned. I use mine and they make my life easier.

Adding one more thing. I take my bags on trips just in case I need them to save all kinds of liquids. I am not in the mood to wipe out leaked items. And I also use them to wrap clothets that need cleaning, or divide some like items from others. In other words I USE THEM, I NEED THEM and have just about had it with someone telling me what I can do and not do. First straws and then this. Trust me I USE MINE. I DON'T CONTAMINATE THE ENVIRONMENT. And if the US follows all the rules and saves the world what are all the other countries doing. See how steamed up I can get.

I store plastic bags but I don't have too many anymore. I stared to buy the grocery thermal totes for the store. I have quite a few sizes depending on my list.

I use the plastic bags I have as trash can liners just to save some $ with my budget.

I did have a large collection until I started to use the grocery totes. That really eliminated the quantity of bags I was receiving. Once I did that then I gathered up most of the bags and discarded them.

I save a moderate amount, but not enough to create a storage issue. We use them to dispose of my husbands wound dressings, vegetable peelings, cantaloupe and watermelon rinds, and any food that goes out on garbage day.

I don’t save bags that could have been contaminated from meat/chicken, melted ice cream, dirty fruits/vegetables like cantaloupe.

I keep them in my car for when I walk on the beach and clean up coffee cups, plastics, etc They're going to be banned where I live, so I'll have to come up with some other method. Maybe a basket?
