I’m sure there will be lots of folks who simply must refute any reports they disagree with, but an open mind may settle some questions.

Smart meters are not dangerous to health or cause disease like cancer. And they are not “like having a cell tower” in your house. The amount of signal strength is negligible.

Read some research-based facts vs myths:

http://www.whatissmartgrid.org/smart-grid-101/fact-sheets/myths-vs-facts-the-truth-about-smart-meters?

The Dept of Energy is also trying to educate consumers and dispel misguided concerns. There is a website dedicated to give information on the smart grid and its benefits to everyone “connected”. Here’s a particular page of edifying facts.

https://www.smartgrid.gov/the_smart_grid/smart_home.html

Hope this helps anyone who is receptive to the idea that coincidences (and anecdotes) are not correlation. One neighbor’s unfortunate problem with a particular smart meter is not a statistic.

Thank you for posting this.

good info @gizmogal @Bridgegal.

If you have one you might want to read your own meter so you can check it against your bill.

A lot of people set theirs up on monthly average & pay the same amount for their bill each month. We don't do that.

I noticed all summer my gas bill was $42 which I thought was high so I read our meter to check against our bill. It was off & to the Gas Companies advantage.

Right now 2-11 my meter is reading 5475. Their meter reading on 1-10 was 6187. I did not read our meter until 2-8 at which time it was 5466.

Gas Company just came out to check my reading plus their hand reader. He said he had to adjust it because it was not reading my meter correct. DUH!!!

He said if it's still off they will have to replace our meter which they already did not to long ago when the other one had a clog in the line.

Now I will keep track of it plus my water & electric.

Smart Meters are so Smart they rip you off. LOL!!!

The water meter has a picture of a faucet on it. If there's a drip coming from the faucet that means you have a leak.

I think they did our gas when a line was clogged so they had to do some work. DH was in the shower & all the sudden no hot water. LOL!!!

Here is another reason to not have smart meter put in especially if your home is older.

This is from my "next door" news feed. A neighbor having issues with the new smart meter in his older home( the age of most homes here where I live including my own) Glad I opted out.

New dIgital meter units
Early last week PSE came and swapped out our old analog electrical meter for a new digital one. Many of you have probably had this done. This morning we had what appeared to be a cascading electrical failure in our home. To make a long story short, a PSE serviceman came out, pulled the new meter and you can see in the attached picture we had a fried female connector. This is one of the two 120V lines that come into every home. The other line is fine. This means we have 110V power to most of our home but without both functional lines we have no 220V power to run our water heater, furnace, range, or dryer. Since it’s an all electric home we have no heat, hot water or range to heat water. Serviceman said that the problem is in the meter box, not the meter itself, so the problem is ours to resolve as it’s part of the home. I think PSE bears some responsibility since it’s been fine for 30+ years and would still be fine if they hadn’t installed the new meter in our 42 year old house. Has anyone else suffered a similar failure since they installed the new meters? If not, you will probably be good but there have been some issues with these. I purchased a new meter box and can install it myself, but it requires a permit and PSE to shut off power from the street. Anyone know an electrician who has experience with this?
