VOLUNTEER Work - Help!

Hi Friends,

I'm going to start doing volunteer work in 2 weeks and just got a request to send my bio and a photo. I am NOT photogenic! (Not at my age! LOL!) Is there some way to have a photo done and have it airbrushed so my hooded lids, bags and jowls don't show so badly?

If this is volunteer work, why would one care? Even if you photoshop, they will see you and then what? I'm not into photos of myself either. But I learned the hard way by doing what you are asking to do. When I arrived it was a surprise to the person I was meeting.

Think of it as getting your driver's license photo taken. I hate it too and certainly don't look like I did when I was younger.

Find a kid and have them use the instagram filters on your phone. They can work magic these days. No charge! Your selfie will be beautiful!

Take a smiling picture & send it in...you have a good & giving heart, that's all that matters. I'll share that I volunteer at several hospitals & other groups...I know who I am, what I believe & live it so wrinkles, bags & sags simply don't matter to me & even if it did people already know what I look like. Enjoy volunteering! I love it.

Why? Are you volunteering for a beauty contest? My drivers license and conceal carry (CCW) pictures showing me like my wife has said to me many times. "You look like a homeless man", and not even just my pictures. I have to show 1, or both of them, seems 'bout everywhere I go!

@RinaRina If it was a "request" I would question it. Then decide whether or not you wish to comply.

At no place I've ever volunteered was a photo and bio requested. I'd want to know exactly WHY these are requested.

Hi @RinaRina, don't be so har on yourself, I am sure you look better than you think. You can pay a professional photographer, or have someone take lots (dozens) of pictures of yourself and use the one that you like. For most youtful appearance, position the camera at a higher level than your face and pull your face away from your body. Maybe you can find a young person that knows how to photoshop and will do that for you if you want. Someone who posts a lot on instagram or facebook. Good luck with your volunteer work!

Just take a selfie, and use one of the photoshop apps to filter it until you like it ! 🥰

most newer cell phones have at least a basic edit feature on the camera.

It's probably for ID purposes and won't be used publicly. As a former volunteer director (retired) I would think it's part of their departmental policy. Just have a friend or family member take some photos and copy them at a local CVS, choosing the one you like best.

ROFL! I take pictures on my camera phone all the time and post them to my Facebook groups. But I've NEVER taken a "selfie". I just flipped the lens to myself and it automatically started taking selfies and wouldn't stop. I did what you suggested ....

I can't believe how bad my skin looks since I stopped using SKINN. LOL!

And my nose!!! OMG!!

Do noses get bigger as you age?

Soon enough they'll know what you look like so just send a regular picture. You're not auditioning for a modeling assignment. Stay positive!

I don't know how old you are, but I have a feeling people, especially young people, are not looking at you and don't care how you look. All they see is an older person and they are more worried about what they look like. I'm sure you will obtain a presentable photo and all will be well. I remember when I had my passport photo taken , I mentioned to my son that I looked like someone punched me in the face in that photo. My son who was 30 years old at the time was shocked and said, "Mom I think you look beautiful". See young people don't care.

Look, I think they'd be so happy to have someone to volunteer they wouldn't care if you had purple hair and 3 teeth in your head!

So few people volunteer these days, it says something about you that you are volunteering.

Every time I see a picture of me my hair (wig) looks like I've had a bowl haircut. It looks terrible. Yet, I get so many compliments about my wig (everyone even my hairdresser thought it was my hair).

Just today while waiting for a medical procedure, a lady sitting next to me asked me where I get my hair done. She said she loves my haircut and had just moved into the area from another state.

I said, "It's a wig". She was surprised. My point is. Most people don't like the way they look in pictures (unless you're a model).

Smile for the picture and enjoy all of the other amazing people you'll meet volunteering. Once you get there and they see how kind you are......

If it's volunteer work, send a picture of your heart, that matters more than the face. Good for you for volunteering.

In today's world, no doubt, it's for security reasons.
