Husband's Cancer Update

Just a quick update. My husband will start treatment this coming Wednesday. For those inclinced, prayers would be welcome (his name is Steve). We are so impressed with his oncology team. As for the good friend I mentioned in the last post that was not supportive I finally got the full story on that. Her husband was recently diagnosed with cancer and he has ignored the diagnosis. His dential is so thick that he is now trying to convince himself and her that he "doesn't really have cancer". It is just a very sad situation but now my focus is on my husband.

@Gayle2, while it's of some small comfort to understand your friend being at a loss for words, when learning the news of your husband, Steve's cancer diagnosis ... I am so sorry that her husband is likewise suffering. Plus frightened into denial, and so refusing treatment. I'll pray for him to see reason and for her strength, as I pray for Steve and yourself.

@Gayle2---well denial can kill !! Aren't you glad you and your hubby are willing to do the big fight to kick cancer in the caboose!! It won't be easy---I had breast cancer with surgery, chemo and radiation and now am a 6 1/2 year survivor. It was one he#lluva ride but I did it. You have my good thoughts and wishes---your friend is in need of much more, I'm afraid.

@Gayle2 Message to Steve: Never Give Up! As a former cancer patient I know treatments can be difficult at times but there is always hope. Steve and you will be in my prayers as will your friend and her husband. Cancer is a difficult diagnosis to deal with and he may need more time to accept his diagnosis and seek subsequent treatment.

Sadly, your friend has a big struggle ahead with her DH in denial. It is a good reminder to us not to hastily judge our friends. Her situation is similar to yours and, in some ways, worse. LM
