Co-worker question

A co-worker at my job refuses to dry her hands in the ladies room with the hot air dryer. When she walks back to her desk past me she dries her hands in her back side - wearing either slacks, dresses, jackets or whatever. She thinks no one sees her but I think this is gross and have to look at this day after day. Any opinion??? I would like to say use a paper towel/etc but I can't bring attention to myself... Why would someone use their clothes to dry hands - think this is dirtier than using the dryer.... Ugh...

I would ignore it. She may have done the research on hot air dryers....hot air bacteria bombs.

I can't speak for your co-worker, personally my hands get chapped if I don't thourougly dry them ( but I live in a cold weather state). However, I did just see a study that said that hot air dryers are terrible in bathrooms. The study said that there is fecal matter in the air in bathrooms and the dryers spread it around so that it is more dangerous than not drying your hands.

Does she work in food services?

If not, just look the other way.

I don't like those air dryers and I refuse to touch the dirty towel dispensers. If the towels can't be pulled out without touching the machine, I skip them altogether and let my hands air dry.

I think I'd mind my own business and focus on my work rather than what people passing by my desk are doing. At least she's washing her hands!

I heard the same report about hot air dryers and spreading 'things' in the air from using them.

Do you look at all your co-worker's backsides when then walk by you or just hers? Mind your business, what she chooses to do with her hands is absolutely no concern of yours. If you don't want to see it, stop staring at backside when she walks by you.

if this happened where I worked, I'd go to the dollar store and buy $2 worth of paper towels and put them in the bathroom. Problem solved and you did something nice for someone else (anonymously)

In any event thank you for posting about it because I did not know the hot air dryers are so gross. Here I was thinking they are sanitary all this time, YUK.

My hands never get dry on those blowers and maybe hers don't either and she is avoiding chapped hands. I think the bathroom doors are questionable in some of those places. I can feel a topic coming...

When I worked, I got familiar with co-workers habits in the kitchen including the restroom.

I knew whose food to eat and whose to avoid.

I let my hands air dry. I try not to touch anything that I don't have to in a public restroom, including using one of my tissues to open the door and then throw away. The older I get, the crazier I get about other people's germs.

I would just be happy she is washing her hands. I see so many in the ladies room who do their business and just walk out. Gross upon Gross. And to think they eat with those same hands.

@PilatesLover@I always hate it when people use those air dryers.I have to hold my breath and get out fast.I have even not washed my own hands to escape.I then use a hand wipe that I keep packets of in my purse.I never touch surfaces in the bathroom without a paper towel or Kleenex and I always use one for the exit door too.I rarely use a public restroom though.

I have no idea why this is a huge deal to you. Who cares? Who does it hurt? I was always too busy at work to even take time to watch someone go or return from the bathroom and it was just across the hall from me.

Astonishing attention to this co-worker’s toilet habits as well as dedicated viewing of her behind. Could be stalking or just voyeurism. Would you enjoy equal scrutiny?

Solutions abound. Change your desk, ask your boss for more work so you can keep your head down and get the job done, get a new hobby.

Better yet, have a chat with this “miscreant” and report your observations and opinions to her directly. Let us know her reaction...

You asked for opinions. I assumed it wasn’t just about her behavior, but yours, too.

I'm a bit of a germaphobe too. but i'm more concerned with the vacuum flush in restrooms. there's a plume of air spewing germs and bacteria every flush. just notice those droplets of water on the seat! ewww

i grab a bit of TP to take and dry my hands or just get out of there and use purell...

Talk to HR and mention the issue with spreading germs with the hot air dryer.....ask for paper towels to be provided but do not mention your problem with the “ clothes “ dryer.

A simple stack of paper towels on a ledge below the mirrors or on one of the sinks should make everyone happy and dry !

If HR resists, why bring in a stack and add a moisturizer pump by them.

If there is no HR, then the above might work.
