I have long suffered from insomnia (hence my screen name).

I have found that my body reacts to caffeine in a strange way: it relaxes me. So if I get up in the middle of the night and drink some cappucino, I feel more ready for sleep. (But I have to avoid caffeinated drinks when I'm driving.)

I suffer from insomnia since I was 16. I take lunesta and seraquel XR to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. I take them in stages so I feel sleepy gradually.

Well for some reason I cant fall asleep. There is a guest in the next room over who has been snoring since 9pm, its now 3:20. and as loud as he is snoring there is enough lunber to build another house by now.

The only comfort I have is my kitty cat who has stayed with me thru tossing, turning, getting water, going to the bathroom turning the tv off and on. What would I do without my Igor?

QVC is no help, still showing some shows with the same items I have seen over and over.

Any other chronic suffers, who take sleeping meds? I have had ambien, lunesta and trazilam.

This just isn't a one night thing, its been going on for about a month now, but tonights the worst!

Any help is appreciated.

I too have had sleep problems since I was a teenager. I don't really have any advice to offer as I too take sleep medication but it does not always work. I often have no trouble falling asleep but struggle staying asleep, waking serveral times during the night and waking early.

My 22 year old suffers and has since infantcy @hsawaknow. Right now she is on 20 mg of Ambien, more than the allowed dosage, and Belsomra. Lunesta never worked for her, this combo seems to for now. She also takes her regular meds at night and some of them have a side affect of being sleepy. I tell her after tossing and turning for an hour get up and do something quiet. She could clean out her sock drawer or go through her nail polishes and clean those out. She will just lay there and get mad because everyone else is sleeping and she is not. Meds always have to be revisited and reevaluated.

Years ago a specialist recommended the antidepressant Elavil to me. I don't use it every night but just a tiny bit added to a sleeping pill helps me to sleep all night. It's best to start with a small dose because you need time to adjust to the dosage.and if you do take it be sure you don't have to get up early the next day. Besides promoting a sound sleep this med never loses it's effectiveness, and can be taken alone. Best of luck. But can honestly say that in all my years suffering with insomnia this is the only thing that's helped.

My insomnia started over 4 years ago. Ambien, Belsomra, Lunesta did not work. I now take Restoril. It works fairly well, but I still have some nights where I'll be up for 3-4 hours . When that happens, I take an Ativan. I don't take these pills every night. I have tried Unisom and Tylenol PM, both me hyper. Every now and then, Nyquil when I'm achy. Out of everything, the Restoril works the best for me. I think its real name is Temazapam.

Ok, I hope I don't get yelled at for making this suggestion, but here goes. When I hit menopause I had terrible trouble sleeping and have terrible anxiety. I have 2 sister's with the same problem, one of them also has fybromyaligia and is in pain all the time. Last year I grew marajuana, my husband was going through Chemo and his Dr recommended it for nausea and to stimulate his appitite. I took all the trimming's and made marajuana oil, usuing coconut oil. I use it in my tea or hot chocolate at night and it has been a huge help with both my sleeping and anxiety. I also had my 2 sister's try it and it has help them with sleep, anxiety and pain. One of my sister's who was only getting a couple of hour's sleep at night said, the first night she tried it, that it was the first night in year's she slept through the night and it also helped her fybromyaligia pain. The last time I saw my Dr he said he would rather have me use marajuana than prescription drug's. I know there is still a lot of stigma when it come's to the use of marajuana, but it might be worth a try.
