Sometimes your good deeds bite you

Long story shortened.We walk nightly to feed a stray cat and along the way we have met sone nice people too.One man lives alone and recently had a heart attack.He is very scared about his outcome and is usually out when we go by to talk with us.Last night he told us that the woman across the street asked him to go to the store to buy alcohol and mix.She gave him a fifty and told him to keep the change.He told her he would not keep any money.When he returned from the store he saw the police at her house so he didn’t want to drop off the alcohol Incase it made more problems for her.She told the police that he was a thief who steals from old ladies.When the police came to talk to him he gave them the alcohol,mix and change and asked them to give it to her as proof that he wasn’t a thief.He was quite upset when we arrived telling us about this.He sure doesn’t need any stress at this time.He is a nice person and just thought he was doing a favor.

Wasn't this too bad - sounds more like this neighbor lady needs help other than alcohol & mixers @dex.

What a strange thing to do. The lady must be on the nutty side. I feel sorry for the gentleman. Maybe you could suggest that he put up a video camera on his front door and catch her comings an goings to his house. Also, I would recommend he not answer his door to her anymore.

Nice of you to chat with him - I'm sure it helped relieve his stress. I wonder how well he knew this woman. Needless to say, I don't think he'll be helping her again.

Sounds like the last thing the whackadoodle neighbor lady needs is alcohol (or more of it)!

@Imaoldhippie@We told him not to visit with her but I think sadly that he is lonely and just needs company so I don’t know if he will follow our suggestion.I agree that the lady has problems but have never met her so I can’t say anything about my thoughts.

She might be in the early stages of Alzheimer's. We had a woman in our office who was so nice and friendly and all of a sudden she started accusing some of things and got really nasty. She was a really good friend of mine even though she was as old as my mother and one day after I was off sick she refused to speak with me and accused me of lying to her and just said you know what you did. It was something so silly that why would anyone lie about it. Shortly after she retired and her son told us she had Alzheimers. and in the early stages they can do things like that.

I'm wondering if you live by me because that sounds like one of my neighbors. She is honestly cuckoo though (has been "taken away" several times) but when she's on her meds she can appear normal. People want to be nice and she will ask for help, then accuse them of stealing from her. Luckily the local police know her M.O. They know her very well.

I was thinking the same thing. What is it about alcohol that makes some people do crazy things.

That poor guy. He certainly doesn't need to deal with her after having a heart attack.

True, in which case no one should be buying alcohol for her, especially if she takes psych meds. They can be a deadly combination.

My DD takes several psych meds and if she (rarely) adds alcohol to the mix, she's even more depressed and can't do anything but cry, although she does't know why she's crying. And I'm talking hysterically crying.

Also, alcohol can effect other meds she may take.

@KingstonsMomi doubt he will be doing any more shopping for her but she is old enough to take responsibility for her own decisions....he was just doing what he presumed was a favor to help a neighbor.

Sorry to hear that your daughter has serious emotional problems.I imagine you have a lot of worries and stress over that....so hard to watch our children struggle.

She's a neighbor and I'm pretty sure he knew she had a drinking problem. Who knows why she told that lie, she might not even know but it's done. There's nothing for him to be concerned about.

I know he was just trying to be a good neighbor and you're right, it's her responsibility if she chooses to drink.

I hate that he had to be subjected to this allegation, especially hearing that he's lonely and reaches out to others for company. He may hesitate now, but I hope not.

@dex You and your neighbor sound like very nice people. Sometimes it's hard to know whether to get involved or not.
