My husband is in a rehab hospital now. There is little room to display flowers and a fan would not be allowed because someone could trip on the cord. Your visit is more important than a gift.

I would ask your friend if they would like some food from your favorite restaurant or if you cook a favorite of their's you could bring a small meal. Usually the food at rehab is so bland and awful. Also, clear it with her nurse that it would be ok.

What are her interests? Does she like to read, for example. If so, maybe you could get her a book by her favorite author or offer to read to her. Does she get manicures? If so, you could offer to polish her nails. I think it's very thoughtful of you to want to do something nice for your friend. Hope all is well with her during rehab.

Think about her injury. Maybe something to help with that. Example - if she is on medication for it and the meds are causing her skin to be dry bring some quality unscented lotion.

What are her interest? Bring her something to pass the time. A variety of puzzle books.

Is she someone who is always cold.? Bring her a blanket or socks for her feet. Is she always hot? Bring her a fan.

You could ask her if there is anything she needs. Or if there is anything she is missing. Like if everytime she ran errands she stoped at starbucks. Bring he starbucks.

I am sure between suggestions on here and your own brainstorming , you will come up with something. I would just call the nursing home and clear it with them first just in case certain thing aren't allowed in the room for whatever reason.

Regular visits are probably the best gift of all.

Bless you and your friend

Most patients are kept busy with their PT and exercising on their own. Often, the food isn't that great. Call your friend and ask if she'd like something edible. If so, what? Often leftovers make the best gift! Or a food from his/her favorite restaurant. I'd stay away from candy or flowers, which have probably already been received.

Your visit will be the most welcomed! It gets lonely in those rooms while in PT Rehab. according to my mom and several friends.

I love the lotion or food ideas that people suggested...visits are the best.My mom and her friends love to brag about how many friends or family visited during a rehab.I think helping to pass the time until they are home again is most appreciated and shows love and caring more than anything else.

Offer to do her nails....if she is into manicures.

3. A pair of warm, pretty socks with the nonskid things on the bottom.

Anything you can do to normalize her day will be appreciated by her.

I was in the hospital for quite a while. I would not have been allowed blankets due to infection risk. They even controled some of the body products to limit skin breakdown. I would tell you to chek with the facility before buying anything.

I can tell you what I liked the most. Number 1 was the visit from someone. It gave me the chance to stay connected with the outside world and showed me how much they cared to take the time to visit. There was a tie for number 2. One friend brought me an unsweetened ice tea and it made me think I might make it. The tea in the facility was bad. Another friend brought me a card for starbucks coffee and I could order it from my room and they would deliver it. That made me know I was going to survive!

I think the connection with just a visit is the most meaningful.

doxie

Food. Delicious food you cooked, something you have made in the past she may have complimented you on, or a decent meal from a restaurant. Nursing home food is pretty bad. When my Mom was in for rehab I took her lunch from home and dinner from home. Sometimes I even picked up takeout or ordered delivery and we ate together. When I was in for rehab for knee replacement at different nursing home the food was equally as bad. They were forced to go purchase yogurt for me that I could eat because I had previously had stomach surgery that limited what I could eat. Believe me your friend will enjoy either your delicious home cooking or a special favorite of hers, or delicious takeout! Just be sure to try to get there with it before lunch or dinner so your friend will have the opportunity to eat your food before the nursing home food arrives for mealtime.

It all depends on what your friend likes, you didn't tell us anything about her so it's impossible for anyone to give any real suggestions. You say injury so a gift would also depend on what she can or cannot do at this point.
