Remember Frank Sinatra?

There is a TV commercial running lately in which the song being sung is "I gotta be me". Not sure if it is actually Frank Sinatra singing it but it sure brings back memories of him and all his great songs like "New York" New York"!

Also, memories of when he did shows with Sammy Davis and Dean Martin and they would all be wearing tuxedos!

Those were the kind of TV shows I wish could come back!

However, it is probably only us over 65 that miss that kind of entertainment!

My 25 y/o DS loves Frank Sinatra. The ringtone on my phone for DS is “Come Fly With Me.” DH and I cannot believe that our son sings along with any F.S. song. He knows them all. We never played F.S. when DS was growing up.

@Newgate - I love hearing Frank Sinatra sing, "The Way You Look Tonight." I think that's such a classy, beautiful song! I'm in my mid 40's and love to hear him sing, he had so many great songs.

Sammy Davis was the best show we ever saw in Las Vegas. Regret we saw him only once.

I saw Frank Sinatra at a restaurant on my first ever trip to Chicago in 1986. He was in town for the re-opening of the Chicago Theatre and at a hotel restaurant. He was laughing at something someone at his table said when I was waiting on a to go order when he noticed me watching him. He just acknowledged me with a nod of his head and kind of waved a hello and went back to his conversation. Not much I realize but a nice memory.

Oh, how I wish that could have happened to me. I miss the people of the 40's and 50's and really early 60's that had good tone to their voices and could sing a melody and not just scream a song. I was born in 1945 and to this day still love big band music. My mother used to play records all the time and I became a lover of good music. We only have a few people with those kind of voices now.

One of a kind for sure. So many great songs. I'm glad Tony Bennett is still around. Frank Sinatra said publicly he thoughTony Bennett was the best crooner out there.

Loved Frank Sinatra. Having been born and raised in New York I saw him at his first appearance at the Paramount when he was 21 years old. He was this skinny guy that all the girls were screaming for. I was a fan then and remained a fan until the day he passed. Every now and then the song New York New York spins around in my head and the song Come Fly With Me holds special meaning. And The Rat Pack, oh what fun it was watching Frank, Sammy Davis Jr, and Dean Martin doing their thing. Many of us here are old timers and we have the best memories of the best show people there ever was.

Our PBS station recently had a special - Frank Sinatra: The Voice Of Our Time. It was wonderful and featured many clips of a young Sinatra and his TV appearances as well as many clips of his movies. He did win an Oscar. I watched it and saved it for future viewing. You may be able to find it on line and watch if you are interested.

I love Frank Sinatra too. I sort of grew up listening to him because of my dad who was in the Coast Guard in the early 40s and stationed in Hoboken, NJ. FS apparently frequented some bars there - the same ones my dad and his fellow seamen frequented. Must have been a fun time for them!

i saw frank sinatra many years ago , when he was at the paramont in new york what a show he put on. many years later in vegas i saw dean martin and sammy davis those were the days, also wayne newton. took a bus tour saw his ranch beautiful horses . nice to go back and remember those days

I grew up listening to my parents play Frank Sinatra,Dean Martin, Marty Robbins, Glen Campbell Perry Como just to name a few and I love them and listen to them as well as the 80's and 90's I listened to. I have a very eclectic taste when it comes to music.

P.S. My daughter is in her early '20s and after we watched "Young at Heart," she had a crush on Frankie BABY.

I also grew up listening to Frank Sinatra. I remember hearing he frequented the Clam Broth House in Hoboken, NJ and as often as I went there with my parents, we never did see him. My father’s favorite song was “Strangers in the Night” and I can still remember him singing it.

My dad was a Sinatra fan since he was a teen and would go see him at small, local theatres in NYC. My dad's name was also Frank, and although he couldn't carry a tune, when I hear Sinatra singing, I feel like my dad is in the room with me. "The Way You Look Tonight" is my favorite Sinatra song.

Yes. I saw him sing. My favorites are All the Way, Strangers in the Night, My Way, and New York, New York. Ha, I also saw Eddie Fisher sing and never forgot when he sang Get Your Paper and had a newspaper in his hand. I was young and always thought that was funny.

I remember the Paramount. I remember the Brooklyn Paramount and Brooklyn Fox. All the shows, and all the rock and roll shows and the D.J.'s from the radio. The submarine race watchers etc.. Had so much fun.

It Was a Very Good Year.

I was only five years old when it was released but it made an impression.

For those who are fans of Sinatra, Davis, Crosby and Martin, if you haven't seen Robin and the 7 Hoods (1964), please check it out.
