Either or Ither?

I don't know how, where or why, but my fifteen year old granddaughter pronounces the word either as ither. It always throws me off for a second every time she says it. I know there is nothing wrong with her usage and my question is, do you or anyone you know pronounce the word as "ither" as opposed to "either", just curious.

I use both when talking. Doesn't sound off to me but when I am writing I always use the word 'either'.

Either. Only friend I've even know who pronounced it "ither" was originally from Canada and refused to give up her Canadian citizenship. She kept some of her language intact to make sure people knew she was Canadian! (It didn't work very well. We all knew it was an act.)

My youngest Son says Either, but he corrects ever word I say.

The words are spelled the same way. Around here, it's E-ther.

I use both. If I say just either or then I use the pronounciation ither but if I say either will be fine then I use either. I never even realized it, either (with the i).

Old song had that 2 way to pronounce it, in the song. It also said, "you say tomatoe, I'll say toe mot oh". It's probably how she's heard it the most.

i use both, depending on where it is placed in a sentence sometimes.

"ither" one would be fine for me.

I use both, depending on the sentence structure. I know lots of people who use "I"ther as well as either. It's often a regional thing but it could just be how your grand prefers. There is nothing wrong with it.

I use the word in both pronunciations, depending on the sentence.

To me, sometimes one sounds more appropriate/proper than the other, in certain usage.

An English professor once told me that "either" pronunciation is correct, as long as you are consistent in the usage.

But if you follow the old rule when two vowels are in a row, "the first one does the walking, the second one does the talking", it should be "ither"

I always say either and neither.

I use either. My g-kids correct me for saying further, instead of farther. Is there truly a difference? Lately, I've become so conscious of how I say things. There's a lady on my Facebook list who is a teacher. She corrects lots of people, & I cringe that I will use the wrong words, lol. I wish I could fine an old English book, I need to "brush up".

I've heard it pronounced both ways, eether or eyether. Either one is correct.
