Makeup after cataract surgery

I had my first eye done yesterday and the second one is in 3 weeks. I’ve worn glasses since I was 11. I never wore much eye makeup because my glasses were so thick it just accentuated the bad but now without my glasses I feel I have these beady little eyes. I don’t want to wear globs of makeup just a natural look. I need help and ideas.

I really think it would be best to check with your practitioner to clarify. You would not to do anything to jeopardize the healing of your eye. When I had my surgery done I no longer wore eye make up, so I really didn't pay attention to her instruction regarding that.

@Meowingkitty, since you have a few weeks before your next surgery, I would forego the eye makeup until you see your doctor. I had mine done almost two years ago, and I am sure that I waited several weeks after before using any makeup. Don't let vanity get in the way. Make sure that everything is ok.

I had cataract surgery this past year and I waited 2 weeks and then went very easy. I was still doing eyedrops at that point and sunglasses so it wasn’t something I did every day

i had eye lid surgery and i used philosophy to cleanse and clinique eye make up and mascara ' the stay power mascara '

i had sitches across both lids' but didnt start useing eye make up for at least a couple of days '' my doctor said that was fine !! cliniqe and phiosophy to wash my face ' hope this helps

I know I can’t wear makeup for a few more weeks. What I’m looking for is after everything is done what can I do to make my eyes look better.

okay meowingkitty.....i, too, had my first eye done yesterday!! and i, too, have been wearing glasses since age 11!! my eyes are tired looking and hooded, so i knew i didn't want to give up my glasses....doctor removed cataract and improved my vision slightly, so i will still be able to hide behind my glasses! you are braver than i am, and i hope you find the perfect makeup you are looking for.....

@Meowingkitty Sorry I misunderstood your question. I only on special occasions wear some taupe eye shadow. I used to beautifully make up my eyes in younger days, but now feels it draws attention and doesn't enhance my appearance. Best luck in finding a look that enhances your eyes.

Last year experienced horrid eye lid infection cause makeup I had used.

Omg! Flakey skin it was really uncomfortable. Afterwards chose IT cosmetics.

No more problem with irritating ingredients. Lastest "No Tug Gel Eye Liners."

Yesterday at my post op I was 20/40 and he said I will continue to get better. I figured I wore thick glasses all these years this was the time to finally be glasses free. I’ll keep experimenting but I’ve noticed that most women, once they have the surgery don’t wear eye makeup.

@Meowingkitty I had my surgery last June, and it was a breeze. I had a great doc too. I've always worn makeup, but it's just a lot easier to apply it now because I can see so much better (also can see the wrinkles better, unfortunately). I only had to forego the mascara for one day after surgery, but there was no other restriction on makeup. As long as you don't get stuff in your eye, you'll be fine. I did pay the big bucks to have the multi-focal lenses, so I love not wearing glasses except for really close work. I couldn't read the paper without them before.

Since you are new, it's really hard to advise you without seeing you. For me, I can't wear eye makeup without first lightening and covering the area all around my eyes with a brightener (they are really red and dark from aging). I'd suggest getting an eye shadow palette with lots of shades (mostly lighter) so you can experiment. Just keep it light-handed for awhile and you'll get used to it. After you feel healed, you really want to try a little mascara, as that will provide the most benefit to your looks IMO!

Wait a month before you wear any make up around the eyes. How old are you? I am 62 and only wear mascara occationally.. I think too much eye makeup on older gals is aging. Just the opposite of what you want.

The written instruction sheet from my opthamologist said to wait 2 weeks after cataract surgery before wearing makeup. I was more concerned with how quickly I could get back in the pool, and how long I had to wait to play golf! Both were just a week.

Had first cataract done in early Dec. and the second done 2 weeks after returning from FL.

The corrected eye: no makeup on it the first week and then mascara okayed for the second week BUT no rubbing the eye. So taking it off is a job ! No problems with the drops: I held the lower lid out until a “ cup “ formed and then did the drop. I found it very easy to do once I used the magnifying mirror.

As you will find out, the each continues to heal for a month or more: “ ghosting “ disappears and the words on the page become quite crisp on the now stark white background.

My eye surgeon recommended to use tears and stop the Visine I had been using for the last few years.

Was surprised to find one eye improved its vision...I did not opt for the expensive lens.

after my cateract surg for both eyes, could not wear any make up for 6 months. a lot has changed over the years since I had both eye done.

Check with your doctor to see when it would be safe.
