Things that teens do :(

Why do kids/teens do these dangerous things like the con*om snorting?!! The tide pod challenge? These and other things dont seem harmless at all. We used to do some silly things when we were young but nothing like this.

I did too, but none that were could so obviously be life threatening. Mine also had an end purpose other than to make friends(nowadays I guess it's FRIENDED or FOLLOWED) in the teen world. Very different reasons "back in the day", and this digital world.

When I was a teen there was no internet and me and my friends weren’t exposed to it. Not even a phone in my room and no rock and roll in the house. And I had to go to school because I didn’t have a choice. Times have changed.

We did some really stupid and dangerous things at 12-13-14 years old too. I remember hopping onto and jumping off of slow moving trains. We actually practiced, doing it over and over.

And they weren't just crawling along. We had to run as fast as we could along side a train that was moving faster than we were running. Then getting a grip with one hand and pulling ourselves up, dangling until we could find a foothold.

To jump off, (and the train had really picked up speed by now) you had to quickly pick out a spot that looked (hopefully) ok to land and just go for it, staying loose and rolling into a ball upon impact.

Now what's stupider? Hopping trains, or putting laundry detergent in your mouth?

Con*dom snorting and chewing Tide pods are not new stupid human tricks. They have been around for a long time just as lighting f*arts have been around.

It's just that all the social media promotes such idiotic trends as "new" but they are not new at all.

I don't believe that these fads are all that widespread-GS knew about the pods but not the con*doms.

When teens are left to their own devices, bad stuff happens. Kids get bored and want attention and look for dumb stuff to get into. Parents need to spend more time with their kids from the cradle ,so they are more cautious of the way they behave.

I have no idea. I guess they are bored.

I don’t remember doing any stupid things when I was a teen and my friends didn’t do stupid things either.

We were not allowed to run around or hang out. Our parents kept us busy most of the time and they knew where we were. I hated it at the time.

Catholic Italian girls were kept on a short leash.

The teen age brain is not fully developed in the area that controls judgement. This can cause them to do really stupid things.

I saw that story, probably on FB and I have no doubt that "teens" aren't doing any such thing. They aren't all running through schools, streets, malls and parks snorting condoms...lol A few might have done it and then it hit social media and got blown out of all proportion. So what? Ever since humans first walked the Earth kids have done dangerous and stupid things. Why? Because they can.

Kids are doing stupid stuff, just like every generation has.

It seems more kids are doing worse or more dangerous things though, than in the past.

My answer to why is because they aren't busy enough.

They aren't given enough chores. They aren't out at 12 and 13 looking for their first jobs of babysitting and yard mowing. They aren't outdoors playing physically hard, but sitting looking at little boxes showing all this stupid stuff and giving them the ideas to do it. They aren't being made to get part time jobs at 15 or 16 to occupy their time.

Many parents today are very much against their kids working. They want them to be kids and think they will have enough responsibility later. Problem is, mom and dad are both working and focused on careers, or divorced and wrapped up in their own relationship issues with each other and with new interests. Kids are ignored, parents feel guilt because of it, and let kids do what they want.

Nobody shuts down the social media. Most parents allow kids to participate way before they are old enough to control their time, properly choose the content, or handle the things they see on there.

Busy kids are less likely to get into things they shouldn't.

the recent stuff like the pod challenge and the condoms up the nose can be life-threatening....I was never into the drug scene back when it was "the thing"....I can't compare then and now; today social media shows how to do dangerous, suicidal stuff that kids find intriguing; they truly don't grasp their own mortality yet. Maybe with more deaths from the idiotic Tide pods and the condoms suffocating enough teens, they will move on to something else...

I agree. I think social media plays a major role in this.

Maybe teens and young adults don't do anything more crazy than previous genreations, it's just that it's documented and shared immediately in today's world.
