As you age

Do you find it hard to know how your fashion style should evolve.I am 62 and I have to admit that I am not attracted to the classic styles that are marketed for my age group.I prefer the younger trends but I am not sure that I should be wearing them.What are your favourite stores,brands and styles if you are in my age range?I haven't bought much new clothing for awhile as I am suddenly style challenged.

I recommend Talbots. The styles are great and their clothes are well made. They're just trendy enough - if you know what I mean. They offer a wide range of sizes, too---which is a big advantage in my book.

I am the same age as you, and I am also drawn to younger styles. I frequently get compliments on my clothing. I think we should wear whatever we like, feel comfortable with, and looks good on us. I just wish I could wear high heels like I used to!

You are telling me that I've missed it all these years, on the price tag there's an age range?

You ladies are driving me crazy that as women get older they start micromanaging their wardrobe, their body, their face.

I don't believe in dressing my age.That's what my mother did .I look younger than my years,I'm petite & have a nice figure.I dress in today's styles but with a little more class.I choose clothes that flatter my figure & my personal style.I don't wear mini skirts or super high heels anymore.

Bottom line,don't worry about dressing age appropriately Wear what makes you feel good 😊. If you like the way you look in something then wear it.Dressing should be fun & easy.It should reflect who we are as individuals!!

I am in your age range and I can't figure out what type of clothing is being marketed to our age group.

it seems that every store and designer wants to get into our pockets and take our money, Styles keep changing and going in and out. Every time I work up the courage to donate items because they are out dated, they are in vogue again.

I happen to look better in classic styles. I am short and busty and have a booty. If I were thinner and taller, I might look better in other styles as well, but that ain't happening.

i am now retired and have no need for a nice working wardrobe, so I wear what is comfortable everyday. I don't stress about what to wear or how I look. It is more important to me to feel great. I feel great in clothing that I know looks good on me, not necessarily what the fashion magazines are trying to get me to buy.

At our mature age, we have a license to dress as we please to make ourselves happy.

Thanks everyone for your input.I never gave my fashion choices this much concern until I turned 60...My husband retired,my son is over thirty and I am sure that I am now a senior.I feel that I need to act my age so to speak.I don't want to dress my age and I know there isn't a sales tag marked 60 and up but I am not feeling as confident as I once was with my style choices.

I am going to check out Talbots and see if I can find my style there. Thanks for your comments everyone.

@OfCourse I am still a yoga pant athleisure person.I have jeans and tshirts.I am a slim person with a small belly(new acquisition) and that belly is the thing I am struggling with most in my wardrobe choices....just don't know how to dress it.

I'm 75 and I don't think my age has anything to do with how I dress.

I just wear what I feel like wearing ... my style is eclectic, and I wear a lot of things that I made myself.

I shop at Chico's, QVC, JCP, Soft Surroundings, LandsEnd, Nordstrom's Rack, Burlington ... and a couple of local shops.

I have never once dressed for someone else.

Most women dress/makeup for unknown women who are strangers,

thus the need for the 'right' outfit, shoes, handbag, eyeshadow.

Retailers, designers & salespeople have made their

living off the Public's insecurities. I know it's kinda ugly to say that,

but it's true. I just wish I could reach through the screen and

give you some of my confidence my mother gave me.

No. One. Cares. What. Brand. Of. Outfit/Bag/Makeup. You. Wear.

I've met the coolest, most genuine, people who think exactly

like I do...though it's really not a concerted 'thought;...

we just do. Good hearts & minds will transcend any trend/fad.

@dex Don't you find that when we were much younger, our mothers and grandmothers dressed differently than mothers and grandmothers do today?

The age line for clothing is blurred. We don't dress young or old anymore when we are adults. we dress body approperiate, not age approperiate.

I find myself laughing at some styles the younger ladies are wearing that are so " fresh". They are exactly what my grandmother wore when I was a kid. Those so fresh looks are grandma clothing in my mind.

This would be me. There's no longer a wardrobe I "need." I dress for comfort and for things I will be doing. I make sure I have appropriate, attractive clothing for different pursuits, but "knock 'em dead doesn't cross my mind. I don't give a thought to what will others think of my style, or lack of it in their perception.

When I go into a store I buy what my eye is attracted to and what looks okay in the mirror, regardless of what "style" or "age group" it's for.

I also have no desire to attempt to look 20-30 years younger.

While I do agree that there are some trends that have age limits, I think for the most part it's more about what looks good and feels good. Not really about age! I do admit that since I have gotten to be older -- 65 --- I do struggle with some of my choices. I will see something really cute and think --- oh, I love that! And then I think --- wait a minute --- yeah, it's cute but on someone who's about 18!!!! I used to have a very clear sense of what my fashion thing was all about. Now, not so much. I do to a degree feel somewhat hampered by my age. I know I can wear whatever I want but I choose not to wear something which is just not appropriate for my age. I think we've all seen people and thought --- why would she or he wear that??? It looks as though they raided their son or daughter's or even grandchildrens' wardrobes!!! But if you can truthfully say that you feel good in something and when you look in the mirror you like what you see and feel comfortable --- then by all means --- go for it!

As far as where I shop ---- any where and every where that I can find! I don't limit myself to certain stores. I do shop in the junior sections as well as regular sections. It's all about balance.

I would only say, look in a full-length mirror. If it were someone else, what would your opinion be on that? Good grief, it's a free world, follow your own rules in this area. Life is short and enough junk goes on, release the beast and go for it. @dex

As long as you dress with empathy, you'll be fine. It's when you dress for yourself, and not for others, that you'll find yourself being criticized. That's the exact opposite of how it should be, but social media magnifies how we look and dress to the point where one would think there is a dress code based on your age.

I don't want to dress like an old lady but I also don't want to be one of those women who look like they are desperately clinging to youth and dressing too young causes draws attention to how old you are. I just try to adapt modern styles to my age. I find the more I cover the better I look. A good example is sleveless tops. I would never wear one because it draws attention to my old arms.

I wear what I like and I'm able to wear. My age has nothing to do with it.
