Parts of the valley did reach 120 today. One down, lots more to go.

@Meowingkitty I think all of us feel for you. It's hot here in Albuquerque but nothing near to what you're having. I just hope and pray there'll be no power outage as I'm sure it would be tragic. Don't you all have a nuclear power plant somewhere near Phoenix?

Wow - feel for you! But it's dry heat - ha ha! It was in the low 80s here today in Indiana - nice nice breeze and I actually just got back from my 40 minute walk - beautiful - hotter again till end of week. Stay cool.

What's the hum-i-di-ditala-ti wherever you are living? Give me 120° with no "above" any day to an 85°-85% heat index. High temps my body works well with it's built in cooling system. When the " " is a high %, that cooling system cannot work as it should, thus increasing my core temperature.

Heat never bothers me, but the BIG H number! Oh ya!

Couldn't ask for a better day than we are having on this June 19, 2017. Been working on trees/garage/roof, and housekeeping all day. Now it's time to get in an hour or so of high HR Cardio exercise, and maybe a little on the ole Bowflex.

Stay cool now, ya hear? Love your nic(handle)

The airport didn't close but American Airlines did cancel a bunch of flights tomorrow for their smaller airplanes. You can reschedule without change fees.

Unusual high in 90s here in central NY yesterday with thunder storms, wind and rain off and on all day and night. Right now it is 67 and we have had a light rain all day and still now. The air is quiet. If it were warmer it would be a good night to go walking and watch the sun set. We are blessed to have returned our water table to a healthy level. The rain every day makes yard work hard to do but it will get caught up over time. Our normal hot times are yet to come. The farmer's were working the fields in the rain until late last night after the thunder storms moved on. Those 2 husband and wife teams work any and all hours to get their work done from spring until winter. They lease the farm land around me from the current generation who did not want to continue working the family farm.

For all of you out in the southwest in the high heat please stay vigilant and especially watch the children and elders. This is definitely not a time for you to have a power outage or water shortage. I can not begin to imagine temperatures that high.

maybe we can agree to disagree. I agree with high humid temps are horrible. and I prefer. low humidity. However, with high temps in high teens...to 120 or above, .it is just like putting your head in an oven. And tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. You cannot walk on the side walk in bare feet without getting at least second degree burns. Our low temps tonight will be around 90. But we each suffer in our own way. I can't take 120 very well.

A hot shower is (on average) 105°.......... I can't imagine anybody thinking air temp of 120° "isn't bad"................

@Kachina624 3 reactors at Palo Verde (45 mi due west of downtown.) Largest in the U.S. But the problem is with local transformers. My cable went down for a while today.......but the electric is still ON. di

@Meowingkitty When it's extremely hot, the lift an aircraft needs to achieve flight is decreased to the point it can become dangerous. A friend's sister worked for AA in Dallas and all she did was monitor temps and figure what the maximum weight of the aircraft could be. Sometimes they can lighten the freight load and still fly, sometimes not due to weight of fuel and passenger load. That's why they cancel flights.

@Desertdi Fingers crossed that the power stays on. That's the closest nuclear plant to us, but we get power from the old coal-burning plant near Shiprock on the Navajo Reservation.

Just thought I would let all know I was born and raised in Phoenix and am still here.The one good thing is I don't have to shovel the sunshine. Oh well the cool weather will return and I will wear shorts in December. Some more thoughts: my doggie walks take place in Petsmart, Lowe's and Home Depot. One last thought: when people in Phoenix die, they don't go to Hell, they just stay in Phoenix, cuz Phoenix is hotter than Hell.

Off to drink more water.
