My son was stationed at Groton when he was in the Navy. So there is a lot of Navy people in the area

My son was stationed there too. It's a tourist area so I imagine there are many nice hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, and shops.

The area my son lived in ,off base ,had a lot of quite old homes made into apartments. Kind of like you would see in Ann Arbor

Yes, there is a lawn and then it drops off to water. There is a beach nearby. I think there is a wall before the water, but a clear water view. We will see it at Christmas. My husband says sea water doesn't freeze. He also says there are no waves.

If it is on the water it must be very nice. Homes on the water in the northeast are very sought after and usually expensive.

Hope you enjoy it at Christmas time.

i grew up on a small bay that emptied into the ocean. It froze in the winter of it was cold enough.

Also if you're a bit computer savvy, you can use Google Ground Level to see the house from curbside. You need the address of course.

@Kachina624 Yup..........One of my out-of-state acquaintances told me about his 36,000 sqft "country estate"..........which is in reality a clapboard farm house, and smaller than my casita. I used the magnifying glass feature to read the house number to be sure......... This person also claims to be "incredibly wealthy"......... Oh yeah......he also said he has a stream in front of the place. Uh huh......it's the graywater pipe.

I live on the "poor" side of town. Groton Long Point is an exclusive beachfront community witih large homes, many have their own personal docks, private beaches and marinas. It is beautiful there, enjoy your visit!

It is right down the road from Noank. I recommend a trip to Ford's Lobsters for lunch. Yum.

PS you will not find many Navy folks in GLP - unless they are high ranking officers.

I'm going there next month on a business trip. I was thinking it would be a boring trip, but now I'm looking forward to driving around and seeing the area.

@PilatesLover Thanks to all the tips, I learned more. There are only 500 people in the place, mostly summer. I hope my grandchildren learn about boats.

I won't be buying there. The beach house cost 5x what a similar great lakes cottage would cost! Huh.
