I Feel Especially Blessed Today

Short story, I've been married a very, very long time ... 30 years of a very turbulent marriage. For the first time ever my husband did the sweetest thing. He was waiting at home for service to fix our broken boiler (just what you need at this time of year), and he sent me an email that said "I was just sitting here waiting for the boiler repairman to show, and I was looking around at all the decorations you put up and the time it must have taken you. You make everything look so special. I really appreciate the little things you do."

I'm at work and I teared up and got all choked up. He's done some miserable things throughout the years, but all those bad feelings melted away with those words. Can you imagine how different it could have been if he had done that throughout the years? But, no regrets, just send someone a special thought or message today. Brighten someone's day Happy Holidays!!!!

You are blessed today. May your journey forward as partners be a joyful one and continue to survive the bumps along the way. Marriage takes a lot of patience, understanding and willingness to work together to go forward. It is worth the effort.

Let's pray that his eyes have opened and that he will continue to see you with appreciation and gratitude.

It takes such little effort to give someone a complement or encouraging word and yet it can touch someone more than we may ever know.........it did for you today.........I am happy for your blessing.

It sounds as if your DH realizes he is blessed, too.....I hope so!

@makena@your story made me tear up too.We often feel unappreciated but never know how much we really do matter.It was such a sweet gesture from your husband to compliment the effort you put in that makes your home special for all who enter.Some people don't express their feelings as well as others and it seems your husband is making the effort to change that about himself.

Some guys just have trouble expressing themselves. Maybe now that he's done this, it'll happen more often. I'm sure you've deserved many compliments in your time together. I'm so glad he didn't go one more day w/o acknowledging all you do. Good job!!

I guess so. Hearing it now and then helps too. And I made sure to let him know how much it meant to me ... positive reinforcement does not hurt. I made sure he knew how much it meant.

Makena, your post was so wonderful. DH & I will be celebrating 47 years of wedded bliss in March. Yes, it is hard work but so worth it. It was harder when we were both working. I left work 15 years ago due to a major illness. DH retired 14 years ago to take care of me. We have 2 wonderful DC & 3 beautiful DGC. I am doing fabulous & we are enjoying our Golden Years. Lots of traveling here & there. Happy holidays to both of you.

That was very sweet of him. Sometimes it's the little things that open our eyes. Thank goodness he opened his eyes and saw how special you are to him. Probably why I'm single, I've never had a man do something like that in my life - acknowledge how special I was to them.

Could be he's been too busy over the years wanting to be a good provider. Today he had some time on his hands waiting for the repair guy, a few minutes to see and reflect. I'm glad he took a moment to tell you.

Let him know...again and again in the coming days/weeks...how much it meant to you that he noticed and complimented you and don't be surprised if it happens again.
