Any suggestions for Thanksgiving dinner in NYC??

Ok, we have decided to take the train into NYC on Thanksgiving morning, see the parade, and have dinner at one of the restaurants there.

Any suggestions on somepleace (resonable) for Thankgsiving dinner? Everyone place I see is over $100 pp.

I live in suburban NYC and any place you go will be major money. My suggestion would be to go in early afternoon the Wednesday before and see the balloons being blown up near the Museum of Natural History, Upper West Side, runs along W. 77th and W. 81st streets, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue (on the grounds of the American Museum of Natural History.

Then we had dinner at BBQ on 72nnd Street and went to the Radio City Christmas show, it was a true NY experience.

PS I got the Christmas show tickets on Goldstar for a fraction of the price and we had great seats.

Can you eat on the train? Just doing all that on Thanksgiving would be wonderful. You're so lucky! Pack a picnic and eat your big meal at home another time.

If you do decide to go to the parade, you will have to get there no later than 4 am to secure a prime viewing spot! Any time later, you might not have the ideal view.

You may want to make reservations for dinner. I would call Tavern on the Green in Central Park. I am not from that area but I was told from someone that is in NY all the time that it is worth the visit to the restaurant. Call to make sure they are open too. You are going to have so much fun in NY.

Oh my gosh, Tavern on the Green is $125 PP ! I was asking for reasonable places to eat dinner at!!

And no, I do not want to eat on the train. We are looking for a traditional TG dinner.

I'd do a Google search and start making calls now. Some places require reservations and you're starting pretty late in the game.

NYC is expensive for sure.

I suggest you try to get a reservation at Harding's Resturant. They are located at 32 East 21 St between Park and Broadway. They have a full course Thanksgiving dinner for $59.

If you prefer Buffet style try 230 Fifth Buffet. They are located on Fifth between 26 and 27th Ave. Their TG dinner is $42. They have great views of the city too. It's a rooftop resturant and bar.

Make reservations ASAP no matter where you want to go. Open Table is a great place to look at the menus and prices and make reservations.

The Flame diner on 9th avenue and 58th street. Not fancy but good food. Arte Cafe on West 73, not sure about Thanksgiving but the food is good and reasonable and a nice atmosphere. Heiddelberg on 85th street and second avenue. Also good and reasonable. There is no need to spend $125 pp. Just stay away from the "tourist traps" and allow yourself time to check out different options. There are many places on 9th avenue, Columbus avenue and on the east side that are affordable. From a NYC native.

No Thanksgiving prices will be "reasonable" unless you go to a dive. You're going to pay for Thanksgiving. Yep @qvc chick.

I don't have any real suggestions, just saying that you've got some good suggestions. I go to NYC a lot and I always find good restaurants at reasonable prices. You'll just want to have reservations where ever you go, I'm sure it will be really crowded with the parade and all. I hope you have a great time!

I may not be going to NYC for Thanksgiving but I'm really thankful for my HAMILTON tickets!!!! I'm seeing it on November 17th! I can't wait!

I am jealous. Lucky you. We used To go to NYC at least once a month, but I lost my doggie sitter and I am grounded.

I hope you are taking a very early morning train into the city. The city will be packed and people often stay out overnight for spots along the route.

As for Thanksgiving dinner, you have 2 choices. Either bite the bullet and make reservations at a pricey place or take your chances and hope you stumble upon a place you'd like to eat.

It's not that kind of train ride. It's a commuter train. The ride is about 1hr 1/2

Yes, and you will need a reservation. Lots of places are probably totally booked already. Even casual/low cost places will be crowded. There's a good chance of long lines and/or being turned away, so I recommend making definite plans asap.

@qbetzforreal I was going to suggest Carmines too. Fabulous food and HUGE portions. I don't know how many people are in the OP's party, but to get the best meal for the best price at Carmine's, the larger the group the better, because all dishes are meant to share. If I remember correctly, an order of pasta is about $25 which of course is insane, but it's a pound of pasta! So split several ways, it's a great way to try a few dishes.

Mr. Sunny and I have been there several times but for two people, you always end up with way too much food and spend too much!

But, it's a great, fun place to celebrate any occasion.
