Frankie or Henry Ate Bag Balm

I had an unopened 2 oz. tube of Bag Balm on my dresser this morning. I use it on Frankie, my french bulldog's, nose. When I got home this afternoon there was a completely empty tube on the floor with the lid chewed off. When I took Frankie outside this afternoon she was coughing, which was strange. She seems fine now.

I think Henry, my cat, pushed it on the floor and Frankie ate it. There's not a phone # on the company website, so I emailed them to ask if it would hurt her. Then I called my Vet and they didn't think it would be toxic. They told me to email them a picture of the label and they would make sure.

Nothing like this has ever happened before. I can't believe she ate the whole thing. I wouldn't think it would even taste good. It looks like Vaseline.

The ingredients are petrolatum, lanolin, 8-hydroxyqunoline sulfate (preservative) and paraffin wax.

OMG! It amazes me that our pets who are picky with their dinner, turning up their noses and refusing to eat, have no trouble eating horrible tasting stuff that is not food.

On of my dogs ate a tube of Frontline that was on my kitchen table. I have no idea how she got it down from there. I was frantic.

I called the number on the packaging and they advised me that it would be okay and cause no harm.

Is there a number on the tube of Bag Balm to call for info?

I hope your Frankie will be okay.

@Carmie There's not a phone # on the tube or on their website. There's a "contact me" form that I filled out and sent to them. I hope I hear back today, but it's doubtful. My Vet should be able to tell me from the list of four ingredients that I sent her.

I would be even more frantic if she had eaten Frontline. I'm glad your dog was okay!

Doesn't sound toxic but may have a good BM soon. Feed him a meal to help it on through and help coat his tummy.

That's a great idea @Sweet Caroline 1. She usually eats around 4:00. I'll go ahead and feed her now.

Our dog has always had a horrible chapped nose. So we always put Vitamin E on his nose. And he promptly licks it right off.

If you have been putting Bag Balm on your dogs nose, has he licked it off? And it caused no problem. Except now he just ingested alot of it. Being a "moisturizer" type item, as others have said. I think that it will just glide right out.

@drizzellla Yes, she's always licked it off her nose. It's just never been an entire 2 oz. tube. She seems fine though.

Thanks @Love my grandkids. Frankie seems absolutely fine. She was coughing when I got home, so I think it might have just happened before then.

My Labs can eat ANYTHING, leaves, stolen butter, asparagus, broccoli, pears, apples, cheese, milkshakes, lord only knows what they grasp up when we are waking in the woods with NO problem.

But boy, let them get one tiny piece of new kibble and all heck breaks loose!

When I was a kid our Irish Setter, Casey somehow unscrewed the top off a small bottle of Cod Liver oil and licked the bottle dry. Needless to say he had the back door trots for a couple days I will never forget it !!!

@drizzellla. Is this dog your collie? Do you know about "collie nose"? Certain dogs have a genetic predisposition for it. My sable collie had it pretty bad when I got her. She

had been kept in a yard in the sun with no shelter and was a rescue. She completely changed color when she was out of the sun all day. It took years but eventually her nose became normal. I don't know of any cure for collie nose; we see some really bad cases in rescue and many "cures" have been tried.
