My poor BooBoo

We just got the results of the biopsy on what turns out is a tumor on his back; it's called a Mast tumor. We talked it over with his vet, and have decided to do nothing.

We could do all kinds of expensive treatments, and/or surgery to remove it, but we've decided to leave it alone. He's 14 years old and has had a lot of health problems in his life; the poor little guy has been a real hard-luck case in that regard. He's already had a real nasty cancer (on the area he got all his immunization shots) that just about did him (and us) in.

So we're just going to leave it alone, and concentrate on keeping him comfortable and happy, and spoil him rotten even more than we already have This tumor right now seems benign; it could, eventually, become malignant. If that happens, we'll continue to keep him as comfortable as possible and let nature take its course. I suspect this situation will be a lot harder on our family than it is on him. And that's ok with me; all I want is for him to be happy and comfortable.

I think that is the worse thing about having a pet .The trauma of dealing with sick pets is so sad . But they do give such joy .So I continue loving them and having them in my life .

I hope he continues to have a happy life .

I'm so sorry to hear about BooBoo. I would do the same thing. I think that we sometimes will do anything we can, but our poor little ones don't know what is going on with all the probing and prodding and tests and surgeries and must wonder why are are putting them through that.

For now, spend time on what BooBoo loves to do. I think we can only keep them comfortable, happy, and shower them with love for all the time that they are with us.

Prayers sent to BooBoo. The main concern is to keep BooBoo comfortable and pain free as possible.

We’ve had to make decisions what’s best for our pets and ourselves. Never easy.

That is the decision I would make and have had to make.

General anesthesia in older pets is risky, just like in humans. Then there's the pain after the surgery.

I believe quality of life is very important.

I would let him live out the rest of his life, happily being spoiled rotten, as long as he shows no sign of pain.

@FuzzyFace BooBoo sounds like such a lovey boy. Your family is doing the kind and loving thing for him. All pets should be spoiled rotten, otherwise why have them. Saying a prayer for your sweet boy.

@FuzzyFace You made a great decision. One out of love. It is never easy when our beloved pets have an illness or other condition. At 14 he has had a wonderful life and I am sure he will have many more wonderful moments with you plus lots of treats!❤️

I would do the same as you're doing, spoil him with all of the comfort & love you have. He'll soak it all up, smiling at the same time. My thoughts & best wishes are with you both.

Aww, BooBoo. Wish it had been better news. You are right, It is harder on us. We Know. BooBoo just knows he's getting lots more pats and cuddles and yummies now and That'll be Just dandy with Him! Every day is blessing, Love him up!

I took my Melanie in yesterday to recheck what the vet said for a year that the mass on her stomach area was a benign fatty tissue and had not grown in a year. That was measured in June. Four months later he said it grew and needs to be removed. I don,t understand how it grew in four months and stayed the same for a year. Has anyone experience this type of procedure? I only spoke with on person that went through it with their dog and was Ok. I,m scared, she is my family.

Please pray it is nothing. I was in shock, and didn,t ask enough questions about the surgery.

Can someone here tell me if they had this done with their dog.

My prayers are with BOO BOO and my heart goes out to you with hugs and lots of prayers

@qvcaddition My wonderful Cinder has fatty areas too. Depending on how much it has grown, is the vet recommending it removed because it could be cancer or is just a fatty area that is only a pocket of fat? Depending on what the vet said, I would make my decision. Perhaps you can have a biopsy done first to get more information? Of course, if having it removed, you should have it sent to the lab for testing, if only for peace of mind.

My black lab had a hard lump cyst for many years and the vet didn't say to have it removed since it wasn't growing or spreading until I noticed that it had opened up and didn't seem to heal. It ended up being infected and my choice was to have it removed or give her antibiotics. I had it removed just in case. Luckily, it was benign, but I was very worried until I got the call from the doctor so I know how you are feeling.

I think some breeds tend to get lumps and bumps and fatty areas.

Sending prayers upstairs for Melanie for it to be nothing but fatty tissue.

I would write all my questions down and give the vet a call before you make any decisions.

Thank you for answering. The vet has said for a year it,s a fatty tissue. He checked again this June and said it hadn,t grown in a year. I brought Melanie back last week and he said it had grown. In just four months, after not growing in a year?
He said it needs to be removed, so that will be done this Wed. 7th. He said he will look at it and depending how he sees it, will determine if he needs to send it for biopsy.
She is eating fine, no problems and plays ok. I do wAnt it removed, just very scared and no family support. I,m told by one of them, just get another dog, I,m 82, she is my companion, friend. I realize she will go and maybe before me, but not yef.
I have a good friend that loves her almost as much as me. Should something happen to me, she will take her and great her almost as good as me. I spoil her very much, but she is a great smart dog.
I am praying very hard. I pray all the time, so not just in times of problems. My faith is very strong and I have been very blessed. Thank you for your prayers. Bless you and Cinder
