I hope this doesn't seem too stupid, but I want to start marinading salmon, chicken, pork chops and beef this summer for quick cooking in the air fryer.

Since I cook for only two, me and my furbaby, and being not the biggest meat eater but he is, what kind of marinade can I use that will be safe for my furbaby?

Never bought prepared marinade. For me, would use pickle/pepper/olive juice and Worcestershire/Lea&Perrins. But, can't use that stuff for Eddy. Perhaps, will have to cook separately. But, the little runt, watches me and wants whatever I have! I'm really missing onions and garlic, etc. And cut down on chips big time: he sees me eating them, wants some, give him a couple and close the bad. Then, he sits there with the 'mommy I want more look' starring until I open the bag and give him a couple more. I know, I'm weak! I do try to be strong, but am a total wimp. Anyways, that's why was wondering what I could marinade with.

Thanks for your help. Oh, by the way, I questioned a vet re garlic in prepared sauce for Jade and he said not enough to harm her - would be fine. And, I know there are some food/recipe treats that contain garlic. Think they're not sure on that, but I try to avoid it.

Hi to Willy!

Didn't think lemons were safe, but searched online and it said small amount okay. Also checked and cannot give balsamic vinegar, but little regular vinegar is all right So you just gave me an idea of perhaps adding dab or each to some oils and see if that will work as a marinate.

Thank you for your advice.

Always found it does make a difference.

Cute story for proof: my cousin came up do to family funeral. Has a pub and chefs so he's used to eating very well. Therefore, was little nervous 'cause can't compete with a pro for sure! I had marinated a cheap steak, then pan fried it and was hoping it would at least be edible (I'm no Rachael Ray). Lo and behold, my prayers were answered! He raved about the steak as it was delicious and thought it was an awesome feat to panfry on an electric stove and have such a delicious steak! Then he asked me what I used to marinate 'cause it was sooo tasty! Believe me, marinating does make a difference!

I would only marinate the portion you are going to eat.

A marinade needs an acid and oil, plus seasonings.

Your acid can be vinegar, cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice

Then a little salt + a little sweet - worcestershire, honey for example

Then whatever herbs you like, including garlic.

And oil, plain vegetable or good olive oil

@eddyandme

Another way to approach marinating is to marinate AFTER cooking. I got this idea from a Cook's Country teaser recipe. The gist of it, for a grlled skirt steak, is this:

"The loose grain of skirt steak makes it an ideal candidate for a flavorful marinade, but wet meat simply steams on the grill. To achieve a charred crust, we season our steak with salt, pepper, and sugar before searing and don’t marinate until after it comes off the grill. Poking the grilled steaks with a fork lets the bold, savory flavors penetrate into the meat, and since the marinade never touches raw meat, we also serve it as a sauce on the side."

This way you could cook your meat, chicken, fish, etc., without marinade, then put aside the furbaby portion and marinate yours. Solves your problem, saves all that marinating time, and all the marinade is "clean" (post cooking), so no waste there.

If you have access to the Cook's Country website, you can read the original piece, but if not, a blogger also did a write-up that explains it better than I did and includes the recipe for the marinade. Here's the blog post.

http://www.thebittenword.com/thebittenword/2012/06/post-grill-marinated-grilled-skirt-steak.html
