Also, a small dog like that shouldn't be left outside alone. A hawk, eagle, etc., can and will swoop down and get them.

You aren't going to believe this. Last night on our local news they had story about a family that had let Thier 2 Yorkie out in Thier back yard to go potty. Well one got out and a neighbor 2 house away found him and put a add in our local on line lost and found section for pets. A few hours later a lady showed up saying that was her dog and took him. Well the next day he was in the Pets for sale section for $650.00. The original family saw this and called the police. Well the police couldn't do anything because they had no proof the dog was Thier's to start with. Needless to say they are devastated.

There are mean and greedy people in this world. Yes tags would have helped. I would think the police could have done more.

A few years ago my sons cat got out and followed him which he didn't know until the next morning. 3 years later a woman called from a store she owned. She had been feeding and housing a cat. Never could get near. She had seen fur etc on things. When she co uld get the cat to come to her she saw tags with a name and phone number. He couldn't believe it. He gave her a gift certificate, candy and a thank you card. Callie lived a few more years to age 20. Sadly had to be put down last year. There is good in some people still.

Just courious what you think the police should do. Without any proof that this is your dog, what makes your story more believable than someone else. You can have thousands of pictures and all kinds of records that you own a Yorkie, but how would you prove that this one is yours. Without unique features or markings, microchip is the only way to prove ownership.

They should buy their pet back at $650 and THEN fight it out – either work with the police and provide vet records, photos that prove markings match, etc. or – if the police won’t help take the seller to small claims court. But, for Pete’s sake get you dog back and get it microchipped. Leaving that poor animal with people who don’t care – just want to make money – is frightening. If the dog was sick they surely would pay $650 for a vet bill, so pay the money to get it back and THEN go after the people. Get that dog home safely first & foremost. Truly, a dog as little as a Yorkie should never be let out alone – even with a fenced yard…a large bird could carry it away for dinner. Keep the little ones on a leash with an adult always present.

Many years ago, my mother got a teacup poodle from a friend of hers who's dog had a litter. When my mother passed, my father did not take good care of him as far as letting him out, etc. so my sister took him to live with her.

One morning she let him out into their small fenced in yard and when she went to let him back in, he was gone. She looked everywhere and called the police. Sadly, she had to go to work that day and was worried sick about the dog. Her DH stayed home in case he came back or was found.

Around 3 o'clock that afternoon, the dog's groomer called my sister and said she thought she had the dog. My sister went to the groomer's business and sure enough it was her dog. The groomer said she found him wandering on the side of an interstate highway on her way to work. She said she pulled over because she though he would be hit by a car and he jumped right into her car.

We think someone's opened the gate and took him because he was so cute and small. He was cute, but he was mean too. He probably bit whomever stole him and they threw him out of the car on the highway.

Amazing that he was found by someone who knew him many miles from where he lived.

I never leave my dogs unattended even for a second. If they are out on my deck and I need to go upstairs or down in the basement, they are brought inside. I trust no one.

Two years ago, someone stole my neighbor's beautiful boxer out of their fenced yard. They never did find it.

Stealing dogs and selling them is big business. Craigslist is full of ads of lost or stolen dogs that are for sale. There is always something in our local papers about people fighting to get their dogs back who were sold on Craigslist or similar online places.

Glad my neighbors look out for each other! They would have called me or brought my dog home in a heartbeat!!!

Some people never walk their dog. They just let him out in the back yard and neighbors never see the dog. One my neighbors has a cat and I have never seen it. I only see the litter containers that are put out on trash day

Another neighbor has a small dog, I think. I have never seen a dog, but they always have those small empty tins of dog food all over their yard on trash day. Some animal tears their trash bags and must clean the tins of residue left behind. You would think they would use a trash can with a lid.

All of my neighbors know me and my dogs, as we walk at least twice a day, everyday.

I hate to say this but stolen or claimed small animals are often used as free food for large snakes/reptiles. Horrible thought, but true.

When mine go out, I go with them. I have a lab that I have to walk on a leash, or he gets into trouble.

My neighbors have 2 beautiful white great pyrenese mixes. They don't care where these dogs go, or what they do. The owner told me when she moved in that the dogs were use to roaming around a 2 mile radius. I told her nicely as I could that everyone in this area probably wasn't going to want the dogs on their property. Some of people have outside cats, and she had already said the dogs like to chase cats. Didn't matter to her.

The dogs chase another neighbors cows almost daily., its just a matter of time before something bad happens. The owners know they chase the cows, do nothing about it. The smaller of the two doesn't get enough to eat and its obvious. I feed her. I can't stand to see anything hungry. Irresponsible people drive me crazy.

The sheriffs office just says to shoot them. Right.
