How cold is too cold to walk a dog?

It will be in the 20's tomorrow. Is that too cold to walk a dog? I put sweaters on them. Do their feet get cold? It rarely gets very cold here so I am not a seasoned cold weather dog walker.

I walk my dog unless the temperature or wind chill is 0°. We don't walk for more than 15 minutes when it is that cold, but she loves a walk in any weather.

Sled dogs work when it's - 40°. As long as your dog is warm with a jacket if short haired, you need not worry. No, their footsies don't get cold. If you had snow, ice and salt they might need protection. . My medium and long coated dogs get hot inside and spend most evenings outside when it's as cold as 20°. They have a dog door and could come in.

Our girls LOVE to walk!!! However when it's very cold or wet they do their business quick !

My chihuahua has a really warm coat and my GSD loves the snow. 20s isn't really that cold for our dogs. We can stay below freezing for days, like last week. I've tried snow boots on my chi but she doesn't like how they feel on her feet. We do shovel a spot for her since her legs are so short.

I take my two dogs for two walks a day every day, no matter what the weather is. They love the rain and don't mind the cold or snow. I cut their walks short when there is ice or I am too cold. The same when it's too hot.

They are are long hair dogs and do wear raincoats when it's raining and sometimes I put a winter coat on them when it is snowing...only to keep them dry.

Play it by ear, if your dog doesn't like the cold. Make it a quick walk.

Don't you have golden retrievers @SeaMaiden? I would think their coat would keep them comfortable in 20 degree weather and that they would not need clothing. I'm sure they'd enjoy a brisk walk, no matter the weather.

My collies have always loved cold weather; they seem to prefer it to warmer weather.

@feline groovy Patriots??? No NoNo! Only Seahawks! I have Lola in her jersey...Zazu does not have one yet....it would have to be king sized! Here is Lola.

Your Goldens will be fine. I worry more if there is snow and they get salt between thir pads. They need to be cleaned off good if there is. It is in the single digits here. Although we don't take her to the park for her two mile walk we do walk her for short walks in the neighborhood.

My mother's dog doesn't mind the temperature, but she refuses to go out in the rain. I think the cut off is when it's too cold for the person walking the dog to go out. 20 should be fine.

Taking dogs out in winter weather depends on the breed and thickness of their fur. My dog has a double-coat and loves the colder weather and romping around in the snow. I never leave him out alone, but he does better out there in chiller weather than he does in summer. As long as it's in the 30°'s, we'll still play outside but less time if it's any colder than that (probably more for my comfort than his). Once the wind chill factor makes it 0° or worse, it's out to get his business taken care of and right back inside. My friend has a white German Shepherd and that dog would stay outside all day, in the cold, if you would let it. He loves it out there, but I'm sure she draws the line at some point for his safety.

Mine go everyday, regardless of the weather; 3 degrees tonight. I hate it but they do not accept no walk. They wear coats and boots, Yes, their feet do get cold.

This was this morning. Willie didn't get cold, but DH did during their walk.....45 minutes. No way was I going BRR.

We rinse his feet off if they have salted the roads.
