Wipes/Cleanser for my fur baby

My senior dog is incontinent. I take her out several times a day, but there are accidents which I remove as best I can immediately (#1) finishing with a good spray of Nature's Miracle. She doesn't eliminate the other in the home.

Her legs are short and her fur gets wet when she goes. Not only does it cause an offensive odor and is quite visible on her white coat, but I'm sure it irritates her skin as well.

So I got dog-specific wipes with no fragrance or irritants. It's better than nothing, but she needs more. She weighs quite a bit so it's not as though I can bathe her bottom daily - plus this would really cause dryness and itching.

Any recs? TIA

Good morning. I do not have an answer for your question, but have you taken your dog to the vet? There are many, many reasons for incontinence, and even in an elderly dog...if there is nothing else wrong...there are medications that can lessen or even stop the incontinence. Incontinence in the house is often an indicator of a bladder infection, urinary crystals, or stones, all of which can be treated, so if you haven't done so already, please consider a vet visit.

After the initial cleaning, we use espree tea tree & aloe wipes to keep his skin soft and relieve dry skin. He does not mind them at all. Get them at PetSmart.

I use "Refresh" cleaning wipes by Wahl. Excellent!

Yes, we have tried numerous meds all of which made her so sick. She couldn't keep her food down, so I won't make her go through that again. She gets examined and tested for UTI and crystals in her urine every 4-6 months. Doc says she's just getting old.

I clip the fur on her little legs every couple of weeks between grooming appointments. She's a cocker and their fur grows quickly and comes in thick.

She always gets a sanitary shave when I take her in for grooming which is every 6 weeks.

@pommom Does your baby get UTI's quite often? If she has them often, this will cause incontinence/leakage. Would wearing a belly band with a pad help contol some of the wetness down the legs? We had a male dog that wore one of these for many months during his last days and it helped a lot. He never went when the band was on. It must have held his bladder up. We just had to make sure that he was outside when we took it off because he would immediately release!

Also, there is a supplement that you can give daily called D-Mannose. It is beneficial for people and pets that have recurrent UTI's. It is a simple sugar that doesn't allow bacteria to cling to the bladder walls. It couldn't hurt and it may just help.

It is too bad she is too heavy to lift to a sink for a quick wash. Do you have a hose hooked up that you could use at least until the snow flies? Shaving the hair down the inner legs would help and really, what difference does it make how it looks as long as she is clean. One last thing, they sell products in the DEPENDS section of stores that have sprays and wipes for people with incontinence. Perhaps these would help with odor.

Are her accidents confined to a certain area ?

If so, have you ever tried laying down some Dog

Potty Pads ? It makes cleanup easy.

Potty pads can make your life a whole lot easier, certainly

during puppyhood, and they can be a lifesaver for dogs

who are older, disabled or have health issues.

They’re not the most glamorous thing to have lying

around the home,many pet parents feel it’s a whole

lot better than puddling—around the home.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to teach an older

dog to use them !

I tried the pads. She loves to eat them. She has a strange affinity to paper goods such as newspaper, paper towels, note pads, etc.

Be sure to clean the ears on a regular basis. The wipes are large so you can cut them or use as is. At Petsmart GNC's cost 10.00 for a 50 count. You can also buy a liquid cleaner to put on the wipes when cleaning ears the furbabies love it.
