I walk my dog for an hour a day... She is a very sweet non aggressive golden retriever. She walks right past other people and people walking their dogs. Today I was on my walk and a couple running with their dogs came by us. They were pit bulls...immediently started pulling, growling wanting to attack my dog. Then my dog gets upset and I have to get control of my dog who was just minding her own business. The lady could barely keep a hold of her pit bull....what if he had got loose?

Further on in my walk another lady walking a dog past us....that dog goes nuts as well!

Why why don't people take their aggressive dogs to a class or something? who would want a crazy mean dog like that? I do have a pepper spray on my belt for just such attacks from other dogs. I used it on one walk when two loose dogs came at us to attack....the spray was a godsend.

I don't know the landscape of the area you walk but when you see the dogs coming can you move over to another side of the street or simply change your position? Sometimes there is enough room and time to do this.

I know I was caught off guard a few months back. We were at a rest stop and space is always specified and limited. I had one of my chihuahuas on a leash and we were approaced by two huge dogs and a rather large owner coming at us very fast. What ending up happening floored me. Apparently my little gal felt threatened and probably thought I was in danger. She totally went into attack mode, growling, teeth showing... The two dogs and the owner backed off... The more I think of it the funnier it gets. She is tiny, long haired and obviously feisty.. a behavior I have never seen before.

I would have had to witness the interaction. Were all of the other dogs on leashes? Sometimes being on a leash will cause that type of reaction.

I walk dogs at our animal shelter, and some of them do growl and pull and bark. They're dogs. Just Saturday I had a little Jack Russell and someone else had another small dog. They were pulling and growling and throwing a fit trying to get at each other. I doubt they would have hurt each other, but to hear them you'd think they were attacking each other - they were several feet apart, so that wasn't a concern. It's funny, but it's usually the pit bulls that are the better behaved dogs.

All I can advise is if you see other dogs walking towards you, take your dog off to the side and stop until they have passed by. Don't assume all dogs are friendly, yet don't assume all dogs mean your dog harm.

Last Sunday my DD's took our 12.5 yr old Border Collie for a walk. A male Mastiff jumped out of a moving open Jeep and attacked her. She had surgery on Sunday. My boss told me a Mastiff attacked and killed its owner in the owners basement. By the grace of God the dog did not attack my children

Owners need to train them, but sadly most owners are negligent in taking classes to get control of their dogs.

That's pretty scary. Our neighbors were sitting in a public garden by a pond having lunch with their little ******zu dogs, three of them, and a crazy pit bull type dog attacked them and she protected the little dogs and ended up getting her shoulder ripped to shreds.

We rescued a pit bull that was running down the road avoiding cars. We brought her into our home. Long story short, she is living a luxurious life getting belly rubs and giving kisses.

Last night on a boston tv station,a pit walked into a homedepot, that poor dog was skin and bones, had marks all over it,it was being abused something horrible.

It was frothing at the mouth. It did not want to play..trust me......and I personally do not want someone else's dog jumping on my dog to play anyway. Dogs that do that and do not mind are out of control dogs. Owners need to train them, but sadly most owners are negligent in taking classes to get control of their dogs.

SO in the first sentance they were not training and in the second she was giving it commands, which is it training or not. Some dogs are much more excitable which makes it more difficult to train than others and "frothing at the mouth" is a not a sign of agression.
