Anyone else have a dog that sleeps on their back?

I walked into our bedroom last night and had to laugh....hubby was already asleep and my 2 Maltese were both sleeping on their backs with their legs in the air!!...LOL

Yes, our shepherd/boxer mix sleeps on her back frequently. Whenever we see her roll onto her back, we know she is ready for some serious sleep!!

Our very first dog Sampsom used to sleep like this all the time. So funny. Our current poodle sure tries to get there but doesn't quite make it. Still sleeps with one foot in the air though - he's a knucklehead for sure!

Oh, yes. Our Sheltie sleeps on his back with all four in the air most of the time. He does this in his chair, leaning against the arm, or on the floor or wherever he lands.

BTW, today is his 9th birthday. He will be getting a few new toys to add to his stash, and a nice "bone" for dessert this evening. We already sang Happy Birthday to him this morning. He sat, listening to every word. A real goof ball in so many ways. Us, too I guess!

Our English bulldog rescue sleeps like that [he is quite the funny guy] His name is Grunty and he snores also. He is adorable with both chubby hind legs in the air.

yes, I was told that when a dog sleeps on its back, that means that the dog is so happy and confident and feels safe.

Isn't it wonderful! One of my standard poodles sometimes sleeps with her tummy exposed. Everytime I see her in that position, I smile. I think she must be having the sweetest of dreams.

I think it is a Maltese thing

. Mine always sleeps entirely streched out on his back all night......lol I think he looks so funny ...lol

Our cairn terrier sometimes sleeps on his back. He also sleeps on his ortho bed with his head hanging over the side. I would think that would be uncomfortable but sometimes he sleeps all night long in that position. He also sleeps all curled up (like a cat) sometimes. I guess he thinks variety is the spice of life.

Yep, my dogs do, usually when it is more warm weather or a bit toasty in the house. I think it is cooler for them. It is hilarious too, all limbs are stretched out to the max. I love rubbing their bellies when they sleep like this. They will even wag their tails when I do, still maintaining their position. LOL, never knew dogs would wag their tails on their backs, lol.

Oh yeah, my dog sleeps on his back a lot. He stretches out to take up the entire full size couch and looks like he's in another world, comfy and "out". We literally have to wake him and almost pull him off the couch to go out for his last potty of the night.

My son's malamute sleeps like that, too.
