Cat litter recommendations?

I was wondering what sort of cat litter all the cat experts on here might recommend.

Litter has changed from years past when I had cats. I even used to haul 50 pound bags of clay litter home. That is definitely not something I can do any longer. I don't think clay is even necessarily recommended anymore anyway. Later I even tried that expensive (was it Pearl?) litter that was white and very light. I haven't seen it for years.

Someday I might want to enjoy the companionship of another cat or two. The litter changing is a problem for me. Not because of what you might think (smell, etc.) but because of the weight. I can't do a lot of lifting and don't want to do it daily.

I've also read that pine-type litter may not be good due to the oils that cats are sensitive to.

I expect to do the best for any cats I do ever get, however, so any litter ideas would be welcome. And please correct me on any current misconceptions I may have.

We have 6 cats and we use Fresh Step or Tidy Cat. Costco periodically has litter on coupon but it is in a heavy container. You can find smaller bags at Petsmart, Petco or Target if you only have one or two kitties. We scoop daily and add fresh when needed.

I have the same problem in not lifting heavy things. I inherited my grandcat and I use Breeze Litter System.

Its different from other litters in that the urine drains through the litter into the pan (I use depends bed liners and cut them up to fit the pan.) I hardly ever have to change the litter, sometimes will scoop some out and put fresh in. You can only use Breeze litter (both the tray/pan and litter are sold at Walmart. The litter is a small enough bag that I can carry it and again you hardly ever have to change the litter because it remains pretty clean-maybe once every 3-4 months if that.

The Breeze system is a little expensive-$40 something dollars and the bag of litter is about $7.00 but it lasts a long long time and no dumping heavy pans of litter and carrying them to the trash.

My grandcat likes it too cause its always clean. I just get the #2 out with a kleenex and flush it down the toilet.

I have my 7 on the Tidy Cat Breeze system too. I've been using it for 4-5 years now. I never want to go back to clay litter. I do use clay for young kittens but I just got Freyja and Thor switch over to the Breeze boxes finally. Cheaper, cleaner, easier, less scooping, less smell, no tracking. I buy my supplies from Amazon because it's cheaper but I have 6 boxes.

I have my 8 cats on Tidy cat litter. I usually use the regular litter but I bought some of the Tidy cat lightweight and I really like it. It seems to last longer and it's not as dusty. Plus the urine doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan (if the cat has dug down to the bottom to urinate). I clean out the litter boxes at least 4 times a day and the faster I can get the job done the better I like it.

I don't like that the lightweight litter is more expensive. It should be cheaper seeing as how the shipping costs have got to be much cheaper than the regular litter. Anyway, I like Tidy cat because you can hardly tell I have 8 cats that live with me.......now the dogs are another matter.

Gail

I just found this thread while searching for a litter solution. I purchased the Breeze system and will use the incontinence pads for the bottom liner. I have a very picky cat that wants her litter box 100% clean all the time. She stands to pee, probably because she doesn't like the litter, so the pellets may be better. I will let you know when it arrives Wednesday from Amazon. I didn't see it at Walmart, so there it is. I also have a Littermaid and regular high sided box. I will pick up some light weight litter because several have said that it has less dust and scatters less, which scattering is a huge problem. I would love to know if anyone has a solution for that.
