Update; My german shepherd needs prayers

On December 24th I requested prayers for my German Shepherd dog from the generous and kind people on this forum. He had emergency surgery after a sudden disc and spinal issue. He returned home and for a short time he seemed to be improving. He was on bed and crate rest with leash walking only.

He had a very difficult recovery with us trying to manage his pain and restlessness with prescribed Gabapentin and Carprofen. He required nearly round the clock attention and only slept a few hours at a time. We brought him back to the hospital x 4.

On Feb 8th he suddenly, and without any reason, lost the use of his back legs again. He was paralyzed! Emergency trip back to the hospital. We were offered another surgery with a doubtful prognosis. We made the heart breaking decision to euthanize our beloved dog. The grief has been crushing, but is now a little better day by day.

I want to thank the forum for your prayers. He was a stunning, and lovely dog and he was the love of our lives. Blessings to all who have suffered the loss of a pet. Thank-you

@MASSMOM I am so sorry for your loss. Not that I could of helped, as I've been sick with CVD for the 1st time in my life and it has kicked my tail for about 2 weeks and just seeing your message now. I only post in this forum at Qtalk, so not sure if your Dec 24th post was here. However, my parents German Sheperd and Beagle had their lives extended a good few yrs by an animal chiro in their state.

Both of the dogs had very similar to yours. They had tried all the join supplements and all the other gimmicks. Finally, a friend of theirs who also had an older dog with joint issures recommended such to them and both of them lived another 3 to 4 yrs with only a few adjustments per year. NOT that there case could of helped your poor pup, but just thought I would share. Most states you can find one avail.

So very sorry about your pup, but you will see he/she again in Heaven, one day. I've heard stories of family members and friends passing over and there some of there last words before crossing over is mentioning the name of a loved one or a pet. I'm so sorry @MASSMOM.

I know it is the hardest thing to lose

the "love of our lives."

I thought it was so kind of you to also think of everyone else who have lost their own precious pets, and not just pets but the "loves of our lives."

I hope you will feel his loving spirit with you every day.

@MASSMOM I am so sorry to hear about your beloved boy. Disc issues unfortunately have been bred into the breed. I had a beautiful German shepherd boy many years agoand his ailments started at age 6. It got worse every year and by age 8 he could no longer walk and we made that very difficult decision. I know how difficult and painful the decision was to euthanize him was but it was the best decision as he was suffering. Just know that every day will get easier and you will always have wonderful memories of him to hold dear in your heart,

So sorry for the loss of your precious dog. As hard as the decision is that you made, you wouldn't want him to suffer. Just remember the love you shared over the years.

@MASSMOM Losing a dog is losing a family member and a pure source of love. So sorry for your loss. A dog's love is a special gift, and he was lucky to have you.
