Yesterday my 19 yr. old last kitty when over the rainbow bridge. She passed here at home..we were just getting ready to take her to the vet for the last time.

She was a beautiful calico shelter cat that was 10 yrs. old when we adopted her..She was DH's lap cat a real sweetheart.

WE are too old and not well enough to take another..If something happens to us..they would end up back in the shelter..so that's not fair.

@Jo1313 I am sorry. Thank you for rescuing an older cat. I understand how u feel about another pet when u r older. I rescued 2 dogs that were on the euthanasia list. I won't tell u that it is easy at my age, however they have a good home and r such good company as I live alone.

@Jo1313. It's very sad to lose what you know to be your last pet. I'm on my last two dogs now so I understand.

Perhaps you might consider an aged kitty that just needs a cozy spot to live out her years?

Sincere condolences on your difficult loss. I had a shelter cat I took home when he was 8. Cupid lived to 17 and I can still cry thinking about his passing. I, too, felt I was too old to take in another lovely kitty, lest it be left behind without care if I passed.

Be consoled that your darling calico is happy and safe over the Rainbow Bridge and you will see her again. I hope you and your DH can feel better very soon. Be consoled that many of us know just how you feel and we reach out to send you strengh and sympathy.

Our 17 year old cat is in her last days...makes my heart break.

I keep telling DH (who has memory issues) that she is with her brothers and sisters and resting together.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I had to have my 13 year old cat put to sleep last month and know exactly how you feel. I still have 2 kitties, but they aren't Slick. I'm pretty sure that these 2 will be my last, as I'm also up there in age. One is 13 and the other is 8, so this will probably be my last, too. Anyhow, sending a hug to you and your hubby. If when you feel ready, maybe reconsider getting another one if you can.

I know you have a fear of them being left but there are so many lovely kitties out there who never get a chance at having a happy home and having whatever time with you may be more of a blessing than not.

Oh, there's nothing like a calico! You and your husband gave her wonderful gifts, including adopting her as an older cat, and there's no doubt she lived as long as she did because you treasured her and lavished her with love and good care.

You put her first in all considerations. Please accept my family's deepest sympathies on the loss of your precious one, and the wisdom to know when it's time to forego adoptions in the future. You truly are people who carry your loved one in your heart where she lives forever.

@Jo1313 My sad condolences to you and your husband on the passing of your Callie kitty. What a wonderful life she had with both of you, a life she may never of had if you hadn't adopted her. She has left beautiful footprints forever in your hearts and in time you will smile when you think of her instead of the sadness you feel now.

I am truly sorry for your loss. You gave a little kitty a wonderful life, and I believe this love is eternal.

After our kitty Lily passed, what a hole in our hearts was left.

But my DD and her DH, both kitty lovers, told us they would promise to adopt any kitty we adopted and could no longer care for.

Fast forward to falling in love and adopting our Winston. We did take out pet insurance after we adopted him. I am 80 and my DH is 83. Winston is source a source of love. He is quite the character and keeps us laughing. He is a Maine Coon and has many dog-like traits. I do not know if our arrangement would work out for you, but this kitty is such a joy.

Sorry for your loss and sure do understand what you are saying. That makes it extra sad to know your last little one to care for. It is something that we do need to consider as we age. Very thoughtful.
