food grade Diatomacious Earth.

I have read this is a good product to get rid of bugs as well as FLEAS. First, I thought I was supposed to put it ON THE DOG, but then I read to add to their food. Has anyone used this product for fleas?

I found a video using the proudct directly on the pet, also said you could put it in a spray bottle with water and spray the dog.

I would still appreciate replies if anyone has used the product, thanks

@Mom2Dogs. I'd do some more reading. Diatomacious Earth is composed of tiny sharp particles of crushed shells and works by abrading the skin of bugs. I've used it effectively for snails and slugs but how would feeding it to a dog get rid of fleas? Fleas have a hard shell so I'd question how it could hurt a flea even with direct contact. Usually it's put on the perimeter of an area where the intended victim will cross.

Years ago I used a fluffy powder called Flea Busters which was put in carpets and upholstered furniture which was highly effective. It was a desiccant and not harmful. At that time you had to have a company come and apply it but later I noticed you can buy it and do it yourself

@Kachina624 When I searched this product is one of the first that comes up...the video also shows applying to the pets fur.

and also mentions using around plants for bugs.

@Mom2Dogs. That makes more sense and is why you buy food grade. If you try it, please let me know if it's effective.

Be sure it doesn't get in your pet's eyes! It will damage them!

I don't use flea preventative but I also don't live in a big flea part of the country.

When I did and my dog would start getting them I went into full blown war right away. I vacuumed everything multiple times a day everyday for awhile washed all his bedding (multiple times) and washed and flea combed him often and it worked but was a lot of work!

@queendiva. I don't know if you are still posting or not but.....I found an old post asking about flea treatments.

You responded mentioning that you used the same product I asked about on this thread....I am wondering how it worked for you.

I understand not to get it in the animals eyes, so I will take precaution.

A small "light" flea trap works wonders! They find it!
