My late Lucy loved watching wildlife shows and dog shows, although she only really enjoyed the Terrier Group, and would watch Best In Show if a Scottie won the Terrier Group. She'd been a show dog herself, so she understood the protocol. She loved it when I put the videotape of the 1995 Westminster show on, because I had told her that the Scottie in that show was her daughter, Peggy Sue. She'd watch her Peg go BIS over and over again if I'd rewind the tape for her. She also loved watching my DH play a first person shooter game he used to like, if there wasn't enough action going on as he "explored the dungeon" she'd make this little humming noise, so he eventually set the monster setting on the game as high as it would go, so she always had something to growl or bark at until he "killed" it.

All my other dogs were originally interested in tv wildlife until they figured out the animals on tv weren't really there in the living room, but once Lucy learned that, she decided she'd watch them anyway. I explained to her that the animals were alive, but these were just pictures of them, living where they lived, like she lived here in our house. I can't say she understood that, but she sure understood when it was her daughter on the screen. The first time she watched the show, she stood up on the arm of the couch, watching intently, until she saw Peg win. I got so lucky, I got a dog who was exceptionally brilliant as my foundation brood bitch. I miss her terribly.
