Recommendation for elizabethan collar for kitten?

My kitten just came home from her spay surgery and even though they gave her a soft-ish Elizabethan collar I think I can do better for her. I'd like one that is softer even - maybe like a thick quilt material (if that makes sense) and maybe has a little bit of a cutout in the front area to make it easier for her to eat/drink and hopefully she'll calm down a bit!! lol. Plus, if it's super cute, like a flower shape, I'd be happy. I'm browsing all the many amazon options - and there are so many! If you can recommend any, I'd appreciate hearing which you've had good experience with.

I also read in someone's amazon comments that they had a good experience with a surgery recovery suit. Thoughts on that sort of thing? And if you've tried one and thought it was great (or not) - let me know all about it.

She needs the collar on for about 7 days.

@moonandthestars, I'm a big fan of the surgery recovery suits/animal onesies.

Your kitten will likely not be happy at first and probably will just flop over but will adapt. Much more comfortable than the collars and less intrusive for eating, drinking and curious kitten noses.

We used this inflatable one for my little 12 ib dog when he was recovering from knee surgery. I tried many and this one was great (game changer) and after he got used to it it seemed like it was somewhat comfortable. He'd just prop his chin on it like a pillow and sleep.

Also, they seem to have a lot of inflatable ones on Amazon that look nice. Just look up inflatable Elizabethan cat collars.

@GingerHead Thank you. I'll look at both of those too / that type. There are soooooo many options on amazon that I am grateful for the suggestions so I can edit the search and the time it takes to choose. I want to get her something asap. She will only need the protection for a week, so I better get a move on. I'll probably order both the inflatable color and surgery suit and see which works best for her.

She's wearing a very awkward collar now given to her by the vet and my other cat seems both fascinated and frightened by the kitten's new look. funny to me.

i quit using them when they got spayed or neutered. The kittens and cats were so frustrated. I just caught them licking in the area a couple of times and stopped them and they stopped.

@moonandthestars @There might be a safety reason for the softness and shape of the collar from the vet's office. It might be a good idea to check with the office before you swap her collar.

And it makes it so much more comfortable for them, with no awkward / tight neck constrictions!

@moonandthestars, good luck and I can almost guarantee it will be interesting.

Just remember kitty's drama over the recovery suit or even a collar is just that, drama. You are protecting her from trauma to her incision. She will recover and so will you.

I once saw a photo of a low-budget option ... the owner took a large paper plate, cut half way into the middle, drew a circle the size of the cat's collar size, cut the hole, then put it on the cat and used duct tape to seal the cut part.

It looked silly but ... 1) it actually worked and .... 2) the price was right.

@Tinkrbl44 lol. It's a good suggestion - strikes me as funny tho! It is creative, which I admire, and a great idea to use in a pinch. I will say, this little kitten is very prone to chewing on paper. I have to hide paper towels and toilet paper from her. I can imagine her being obsessed with trying to chew the paper plate.

@Marp Thanks. I've been browsing the recovery suits - and still browsing ... now I'm feeling insecure about it. Litter box useage while wearing the suit?

I like a lot of suggestion I've gotten here. Thanks for all who posted Etsy was a great thought, the blow up collar was great, etc. etc. Today she seems a little more settled with the collar the vet gave her - I roll the front up for her when it's time to eat. I did think they had it on too tight for her, so I adjusted it a bit today and seems more comfy but still secure. I gave her post-op medication today - first pill for her and I. Went pretty well!. I think she's being a good sport. My other cat seems is still very hostile and scared of that cone on kitty's head.

I think the only thing I won't do is no protection to keep her from messing with her stitches. I don't trust her enough with that yet. Maybe day 5 or 6 ?
