Cats can bust into timed feeders!

Well...one cat can. The others sit around watching her just waiting to get to the food after she has done all the work! I was rolling on the floor after my husband and I caught the former runt of the litter opening up the timed feeder that had been put down in preparation for a trip away from home today. I was shocked! And horrified! And laughing hysterically! Now what do we do? The cats have to have timed food because they are all gluttons, all throw up if they eat too much food at once, and all throw up if they go too long without food. We have to drive to my mom's frequently to take care of things she needs and be gone for 12-16 hours. So, do any of you folks here have recommendations on a clever cat-proof feeder? Just let me know what your faves are. I Would appreciate the suggestions.

@ThinkOutsidetheBox Sorry, have nothing to offer but can't seem to stop laughing at the picture I have of this in my head - that must have been a sight! Cats (and kittens) are just too smart sometimes.

Seriously, we've used the automatic feeders for quite a while now and never had a problem. We fostered for several years and found the feeders our best option. Wishing you good luck.

Thanks SpaCrazy! We have used the feeders for several years and didn't think we had a problem. Ummm...we probably did? It WAS hilarious though. Cute as all get out. And it was our littlest girl too. SMH!

@ThinkOutsidetheBox Because I'm lazy by nature, I've always used a battery backup electric feeder for my cats for over 50 yrs! Never, never an issue. I purchased from Petsmart. This is my current one. Had if now for over 10yrs.....

Takes any size kibble. Never ever clogs. No cleaning. Just wipe the exterior. The bowl detaches for cleaning if needed. I've never detached. Just wipe w/a damp dish rag & it's good to go!

Post a pic of yours. Need to see how your cats are getting into their feeder.

My cat does look up into the slot where the food drops. Sometimes I see him w/a paw over the slot as if to catch the food as it comes out.

This morning one of ours got his head stuck in one of my husband's sneakers. As soon as I realized he was not in danger of being hurt I laughed and laughed....then I removed it from his head...but he was not to be dissuaded, he went right back to it!

My parent's cat (Simba) figured out how to bust into his automatic feeder (funny thing was if my parent's set it while gone he wouldn't eat any of it until they came home).

This is what his looked like (it had two sides and you could set each side to a different amount of time before it opened).

My daughter has a WiFi one. It gives her an alert when it drops, needs filling etc. she keeps getting alerts the tube is clogged. Her cat keeps sticking her paw up the tube trying to get the food 🤣🤣

@ThinkOutsidetheBox I have 2 indoor cats, they do the same as yours. I can't leave food for them in a bowl. They don't know when to stop eating, gorge themselves, and throw up. Also they can't go more than 3-4 hours without food or they also throw up bile. I've had both checked by the vet, xrays, bloodwork and both are fine, 7 and 8 years old, but they've done this since kittens.

So whenever I'm gone more than 4 hours I have to set timed feeders. At night, I set my ALEXA ECHO DOT's timer for 3 hours and I get up to feed them. I never get a non-stop 8 hours of sleep! During daytime, I feed them every 2.5 hours.

I use this feeder from Amazon. PetSafe Smart Feed Wifi Feeder. Each cat has their own and I have to keep them in separate rooms when away from home.

They are spoiled rotten, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
