"Pretty" Dogs

They are Shetland Sheepdogs or commonly called Shelties.

"Intelligent, quick, and obedient herder from Scotland's remote and rugged Shetland Islands. Shelties bear a strong family resemblance to their bigger cousin, the Collie. The Shetland Sheepdog is a small, active, and agile herding dog standing between 13 and 16 inches at the shoulder. The long coat is harsh and straight, with a dense undercoat, and comes in black, blue merle, and sable, with white markings.

Bright and eager Shelties are easily trained and world-class competitors in obedience, agility, and herding trials. They are sensitive and affectionate family dogs, highly in tune with the mood of the household. They like to bark and tend to be reserved toward strangers, two qualifications of an excellent watchdog."

This is a great breed. All around nice dog.

How beautiful!!

I've posted a few times about my two beloved Shelties, whom I loved so much and miss every day. They were loving, loyal and brought much joy and happiness.

The second dog on the stairs looks just like my Juliet and her kind, intelligent look.

This buoyed my spirits so much - thank you!

@Foxxee Nice post! I have been lucky to have visited the Shetland Islands in Scotland and got to see a lot of these dogs. They are beautiful and natural herders. So much fun

I loved them along with the Shetland ponies and the Highland cows. I have Scottish roots and this made me smile. Thank you.

Such a stand out picture of three beauties! I am most familiar with the middle Sheltie, my girlfriend had one years ago, so friendly and sweet. I do love the black Sheltie and the white one with the black colors , just so pretty! Gentle creatures who bring happiness to their homes, loyal and protective.

The first dog is gorgeous looking!!!!

The 2nd dog reminds me of my mother's long nosed collie I grew up with, same coloring. Yes, he looked exactly like Lassie.

I had a flashback of an obedience (with beginner agility) class I was taking with my Akita, long passed. There was a beautiful Sheltie that was stealing the show. Looked like the middle one in the photo. A little sassy diva, making all the other dogs (and their owners) feel inadequate, Lol.

Her owner could take her through a routine the first time and she'd immediately get it and perform perfectly the next round. She was immediately ready for the next challenge.

My Akita, on the other hand, did okay, but he continually looked at me with an expression like -- you've got to be kidding me. I'll do it if it makes you happy, but this is humiliating. He was a very smart, special character, though, even being toward the bottom of his class. Will miss him forever.
