Chewy Is Out Of Stock on My Prescription Cat Food!

My daughter asked me to please order a few cases of Bill's prescription cat food so she can carry it in while she's here with me.

I went on Chewy to order his prescription cat food and it is out of stock!

Chewy has all of the other prescription cans but not the one Bill eats.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem.

I asked them if they'd notify me when more comes in so I can order it.

But I think I'll call Chewy tomorrow and make sure I'm on the list to guarantee Bill gets his cat food.

He often has an inflamed pancreas, that's why he eats it.

@Annabellethecat66 I've run into a couple of pet related items that every place seems to be out of. Ava is on an elimination diet and is eating Hill's z/d right now. The Vet said to give her unflavored Heartgard. I found about six places that carried it, Chewy included, and they are all out of it in every size. My Vet said I could give her Revolution topical instead.

Also, she's on an antibiotic, and I need to give it to her in duck and pea Pill Pockets. I can't find them anywhere either, and the Vet doesn't have them in stock. I put her pill in canned z/d tonight instead of a Pill Pocket. I think there must be a production problem on these items because of Covid.

Did you try PetSmart for your cat food? They might have it, and also your Vet might have it or be able to get it for you.

Is it possible Vets in the area carry a stock of this med-food? I used to see people coming in Vet office to pick up cases of pet food. No idea what it was or who (cats- dogs) it was for. Speciality chow I assume.

@NickNack Maybe because it's prescription they don't have it either.

I do have a huge bag of the same food (prescription) in dry food. Sometimes I mix it in his wet food so he'll eat the wet food.

Vet said to give him the dry food to clean his teeth because the canned food is bad on his teeth.

I still have a lot of that left so at least he'll have some prescription to eat.

But I kinda hate to give him much because they think it's 'treats'. Hat!

At night or if I'm getting ready to leave the house I'll say, "OMG! What time is it Bill?"

He will put his front paw on my arm and look up at me. It's so funny. I put my hand over my mouth when I say it so he knows the expressions and seems to know the word treat.

Sometimes I will spell it out. It's the expression I think that he's aware of. I mean they will show up in the kitchen no matter in the house where they are.

Katie the cat swallows them whole. Bill chews them each and every one by one!

I had the same thing happen last month with Chewey. I am on auto delivery and got an email saying that Gracie's Hills prescrition canned food is back ordered. I always have an extra case in the house so I was covered. I just checked and the food is back in stock. Hopefully yours will be too very soon.

I had possible delays in my Rx cat food deliveries from Chewy, but they came through on schedule.

Word of advice on Chewy's email notification: Don't rely on them to email you when something is restocked, at least non-Rx, even if you have submitted a request to be notified. I never got an email that a particuar dry food had been restocked but was checking the page daily and jumped on it when I saw it was in. So I'd advise bookmarking the item page and checking every day so you don't miss it, whatever it is.

@Annabellethecat66 Also, try PetcareRX dot com. I get my dog's prescription dog food and most of her medications from them. They are cheaper on almost every item as long as you subscribe to the annual "club". From what I remember, they guarantee they will save you more then the annual fee and I normally save it withing the first part of the year.

The only thing that I get that is less expensive is her tramadol, and I get that from the vet. I need to save where I can, so I really shopped around in order to find the best price at PetCareRX, with free shipping.

Good luck, since the toilet paper shortage, I try to keep all of her items well stocked just in case of any possible shortages.

I remember from my Schmoo thread that Bill has pancreas issues like our cat Frankie. If he's eating Hills Science Diet d/d, the canned, it is backordered EVERYWHERE.

My vet recommended substituting Royal Canin duck and pea (prescription, not the stuff you can get in stores). We've been using it with Frankie for two weeks now, and it works perfectly--she likes the taste and texture, and no gut problems at all.

Same thing happened to me with Chewy as did with @noodleann. They were out of my cat's food, I asked them to email me when it was restocked and they never did I checked every day and when I finally noticed it was in stock again, I ordered 4 cases. Since then, I always make sure I have at least 4 - 5 extra cases on hand. Do not want to ever run out of his favorite food.

Like others have said, you might be able to get more at a place like Petflow. I doubt something like Amazon or Petco would work, since the food you want requires a prescription. It's a racket, isn't it?

Best to stock up as soon as the food is available again.

I get my prescription diet from the Vet. I did check with Chewy recently but their price is no better so I'm sticking with my vet.

When we first started on the prescription diet I got it from Petsmart, but be aware that Petsmart requires a copy of the prescription for their prescription diets. Once you give them one, it stays on file so you don't have to do it every time. I'm not sure how Chewy handles prescription diets since I never went any farther than checking the price on their site.

Chewy contacts your vet and gets the Rx and authorization, then fills the order.

I went with Chewy for Rx food that I'd been getting from my vet when we had an especially hard winter and the half-hour drive on icy roads to get to the vet was something I wanted to avoid if possible. My vet had no problem with it. I think I'll buy my next case from him, though, just to get the can cap that they provide that doesn't come with the Chewy delivery. The ones I have are wearing out.

If my vet was closer, I'd definitely go with him for every case, but it's such a relief to know this will arrive every 2 months (it's supplemental food) that I really want to stick with Chewy.

My dog has a pancreas issue also. Feel so bad for her when it flares up. I order her food through the vet and to pretty order the next bag when I pick up a bag. I hope your cars food arrives shortly!
