With Meat plants closing now and in the future....

You may want to make sure you have several months of dog and cat food stocked up. It is not a time to hoard.. but just incase chicken and beef become no longer available to pet food suppliers.. you may want to look out several months ahead.

I know many places were not easy to find exactly what I was looking for since this started, and I'm guessing the meat plant issues may only complicate that further.

I guess everyone should consider just about anything they consume to have a possibility for shortages and interruptions.

Keeping tabs on the latest news, and keeping a good supply on hand is just the way we live and were raised, but so many people don't, and are finding themselves scrambling.

People are going to have to develop a different strategy if they want to continue to have the things they need/want in this new and hopefully temporary reality.

@SeaMaiden I also fear shortages. I am researching where to purchase beef and chicken in bulk. There are web sites were you can place 1/2 order (225-450 lbs). Freezing the beef will get you through the year in case the supply chain breaks down like it has with paper goods. I am currently not trustworthy of any PORK products, even cured and smoked one such as bacon.

@Reever I am not concerned about myself, just my dog. I could go without meat if I had to. Many other choices of protein to choose from. But , I believe dogs and cats require meat protein.

Cats are what is known as obligate carnivores. They require animal protein. If you give your cat a vegan diet, you will make a sick cat.

Mercola says that dogs are "scavenging carnivores."

THIS is very significant information ...

I didn't know until yesterday about meat plants closing.

I was listening to a radio talk show, and the commentator was interviewing someone who was either a farmer or had a meat processing plant.

Unfortunately, I tuned in late, but the future production of meat sounded grim.

The interview really frightened me.

@RinaRina People will do just fine without chicken and beef and pork. Just have to get creative using nuts, seeds, plant proteins. It will probably make Americans healthier being forced to not use or eat meat protein.

People may have to become vegetarians eventually, but cats are true carnivores and cannot. Dogs are omnivores, but I would prefer to feed my dog a meat based diet. I really hope we will continue to have a choice as to whether we want to eat meat and what to feed our pets.

Im also worried and frightened. I heard a similar warning on a radio program last night. Have you looked into ordering meat in bulk ? I have not been to a grocery store in over a month and a half but am hearing stories of "sold out" signs for chicken and ground beef. I am going to order protein shakes because if we run out of meat I am concerned about getting enough protein. They have packs of 24 on Amazon and if I order 3 of those at least its close to a 3 month supply ensuring I get enough protein. Also check into ordering bulk meat in large quantities. If a shortage is coming, better to jump on now before the supplies get real tight like what happened wiith toilet paper. Always best to be ahead of the masses.

For the very first time, I'm ALMOST glad our hybrid bengal cat and purebred bengal cat have passed on.

Our hybrid almost wasted away on every commercial/prescription brands we tried and vet recommended. Wasn't until we researched and made a homemade food that he thrived.

We can't find chicken for ourselves these days, much less the amount needed to prepare and freeze for 2 cats. Not to mention having to run around to health food stores to score all the additives needed.
