I have a closet full of Louis’s polyester tops and dresses and now I have become allergic to all of them. I keep on trying to wear them the materialis prickly and is very uncomfortable. Does anyone else have this problem with polyester or is it just me?

I am allergic to evertything (almost). I have to wear natural fabris or high blends of a natural fabric and no more more than 8% of man made. It's not unusal for your body chemistrsy to change every so many years. It also can be a change in what thread they are using, the origin of the thread or the processing. I hae to get this involved because of my situation. I donate my things to a woman's shelter and buy a lesser amount of replacement items. It's a way I try to declutter that works for me.

I am not sure whether it is an allergy, but I have found that I cannot wear polyester or poly/span tops no matter how well made. I get itchy and uncomfortable regardless of the temperature. I think it may be because the fabric is just not as breathable and my skin gets irritated by it. I have also found over the years that my skin is much more sensitive to the weight and feel of jewelry, but that is another topic!

I guess it’s just old age and sensitivity issues. I had this problem when I was young and now it’s revisiting me again in my old age. Unfortunately all Louis’s clothes are in polyester and I can’t order anymore and will donate what I have. Where do you find natural fabric in this day and age.

For cotton, I have the thinnest cotton slub from logo. Also her rayon/span is very soft. The problem with logo are the unnecessary kooky styles. Therefore, I just wear many as pajama tops.

I'm alergic to silk organza. I bought a beautiful sleeveless cocktail dress with a fitted bodice and a full skirt in an amazing coral color. My husdand and I were going to a wonderful event, and I wore the dress with turquoise jewelry. I had never had it on for very long. It was an out door event and it was warm. I started to feel very uncomfortabe not thinking it was the dress. Silk had never bothered me before. My husband said are you feeling alright? Your back is beet red as were my arms and chest. When the hives started to pop up we took our leave. I took an alergy pill, and a shower. Need less to say I returned the dress. I was told it was the finish of the fabric that makes it stiff. Who knows, but I never went near the fabric again.

Yes, it is often the finishing materials used that cause the problem. I am also very reactive to cheap dyes. I can smell them at 40 paces! Another thing that can affect comfort and wear is the quality of the fibers used. Those with very short fibers, sometimes even recycled with much shorter pieces fallen on the manufacturing floors swept up and reconstituted, will pill very quickly affecting the look as well as the comfort in wearing those garments made from them. This is also true of the thread used.

I don't have any problems with Louis's polyesters. In fact, the quality of them is beautiful and also much cheaper to maintain than silks: easy care and the dyes used are stable. I have actually come to prefer them.

Polyester is plastic. There are a ton of chemicals used to make it. If you use fabric softener on poly, it will stick and make a film.

If you use fabric softener, give it up. Rinse your clothing in vinegar water to remove the buildup. That might help.

I had a recent breakout in hives from the fabric softener. I was using the same one I’ve used for awhile. The manufacturer changes the formula and I believe add sulfate/sulfite. The manufacturer for some reason does not have to list the ingredients, so it’s hard to catch when a change has been made. I had to rewash several loads of clothes once I identified there was an issue. Louis also has some button up blouses that are cotton and still available. Good luck in identifying the culprit of your discomfort. I hope you are able to identify and still be able to wear Louis’ designs.

I love Louis' designs, but the fabrics lately are unfortunately not for me. I know he sources the best poly he can find, but every time I try it, I send it back. Just can't wear poly - especially in tops.

I find the pebble crepe ok - majority rayon, made from cellulose, so technically while man made, not a synthetic fabric. And I do love the WK, again, majority rayon.

It's disappointing to me that his budget doesn't allow better fabrics, when Martha Stewart, D & Co, and SG can all do linen blends for summer.

I'll just stick to Whisper Knit and outerwear. Sigh...all those beautifully designed items in non-natural fabrics.
